Re: Selah

That's interesting. It does seem to fit the context of the verses I've read. And so, it leads me to contemplate as a group three utterances that frequently recur - Selah, Amen, and Hallelujah. These three together seem to me to be a unified group, each fulfilling a different function, all being nece...

Selah

Greetings, Sophians -
A simple question, perhaps, but one I haven't seen addressed elsewhere. In a number of Psalms, the word "Selah" appears at the end of verses. What does Selah mean, and does it have any particular gnostic significance?

Peace be with you,
Doug

Chemicalization

Thank you, Tau Malachi, for this timely reminder on the cultivation of joy and focus on the positive - an ongoing lesson for some of us. Two thoughts: Ingrid posted recently on the Peaceful Palace meditation, which apparently brought negativity to her awareness instead of the joy or peacefulness she...

A Question to Pose

Brother Mark - I really enjoyed and appreciated your post on this topic. Your voice on this matter presents as the spirit of true humility, and I was reminded by your words of the beatitude "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven." Listening and being receptive...

Of course!

Thank you, Tau Malachi, for your insight into this matter. It all makes such perfect sense as you presented it, and I am most grateful for your response on a number of levels. A follow-up occurs to me as a result: so, it sounds as if there is actually more of an opportunity to awaken to the Risen Ch...

Greetings, friends - In reading the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, by Sogyal Rinpoche a few years ago, I noted the correspondences between Rinpoche's teachings and the Sophian Gnostic views on death and dying, and their close accord in a number of respects. But I was vaguely troubled by Rinpoche'...

Healing the Desire to Receive

Greetings, Tau Malachi! Thank you for this discourse on Giving and Receiving. It clarifies a few things that were obscure to me previously. I have read and heard in several of your commentaries and works that joining the Desire to Give with the Desire to Receive is what enables Divine Grace to move ...

Resistance

Greetings, Brother - It is interesting that you comment on the resistance and doubt and struggle you perceive internally. Recently, I have noticed the same within myself - one part open and devotional and aspiring; the other resistant at times with the entire enterprise. I came to notice this by way...

Life and Body

Greetings, my brother! You have touched on a topic that has particular relevance for me at this time as I begin a new job. Issues of self-worth, spiritual and the more mundane ego-oriented variety, tend to take on a pressing (oppressing?) and insistent tone in the days before one really knows what o...

Time Frame

Thank you for this recent historical perspective, Tau Malachi. I find it intriguing that the time frame mentioned for the advent of the Supernal Dawn roughly coincides with the birth and life of Sri Aurobindo, the developer of Integral Yoga. However, perhaps Aurobindo's companion, Mother (Mirra Rich...

The Holy Synthesis

Greetings, all - What a wonderful thread, and many thanks to Phillip for such delightful images! Might I interject another angle on this discussion? In reading Tau Malachi's last post, there was an internal "Ahhh, yes!" as I recognized in his closing words an insight that had occurred to me recently...

Thank you!

:D Wow! A most sublime presentation! Mixes the best of Western philosophy with the illuminated understandings of the Holy Kabbalah and the Sophian Gnostic way. I hear traces of Schopenhauer, Kant, Heidegger, and many others in your exposition. Thank you for this post, Tau Malachi!

Station of Psalm 71 in Pistis Sophia

Greetings, all! I am intrigued by this psalm's position in the Pistis Sophia as the second of the utterances leading to elevation and deliverance. Are the three themes mentioned by Marion - giving praise, asking for deliverance from evil or temptation, and speaking the fate of evil-doers - found in ...

Time Pressure, Fear, and Desire Energy

Shalom Kat and Tamara, I appreciate your feedback. Coveting, indeed, is something to constantly be aware of and on guard against in a mass-market advertising-saturated economic system that encourages us to keep up with the Joneses. And, Tamara, I think you've summarized the issue well. The Merck exa...

The Interface and Translation - Ideal to Practical

Thank you Phillip and Tau Malachi! I had a minor experience at work today where Phillip's observations replayed in the back of my mind and informed my response. Timely! And to see gossip or the tendency to engage in it as a form of violence is very instructive. If ever I find myself in an occupation...

Right Livelihood - The Sophian Perspective?

Greetings Sophians! I am curious as to how the Buddhist concept of right livelihood fits into Gnostic life and practice. Since so much of our time is wrapped up in making a living, oriented towards the surface world, it would seem an important issue to come to terms with. All I am able to find on th...

Dark Light from Ascension

Greetings! This post reminded me of the works of St. John of the Cross and some of his observations about the dark night of the soul. For it seems that not only is there a darkness that can deceive and lead to a descent, as in the Pistis Sophia, but a darkness that comes as a result of an ongoing as...

Greetings, Brother Smiley! And might I add your insights contribute greatly to this post as well! The notion of gnowledge as a verb is excellent - perhaps the reason Verse 2 of Thomas refers to the advent of a troubled state is that we don't expect that Gnowledge is alive, conscious, and exhibits an...

Greetings, All - This is my first post on the board, and I'm so pleased to find such a group of intelligent and perceptive posters. To return to Al's original post, I believe he may be onto something when he speaks of a woman's desire for possession of a man and man's desire for conquest of a woman....
