The True Cross?

#1 Postby +David » Wed Jan 22, 2014 12:03 am

Dear Elder Brother

I understand, from reading, that the True Cross is Messiah as Shin-Tav, the perfect image of Adam-Ha-Rishon.

But, I recently read - somewhere on the Forum – that when we perform the Kabbalistic Cross – that is the 'true' Cross (not the one of wood).

So, may we also say that, the True Cross is the Tree of Life? the perfect Tree of Atziluth?

And if this is so, may we also liken the Chrism, the Shefa, to the "sap" of that perfect Tree?

(I recall the sacred image that depicts, Christ, as High Priest and King, reigning in Glory from the Tree of Life)

May Hayyah Yeshua bring Shalom to all.

Greetings and blessings in the Holy Light of the Messiah!

In the Acts of St. John there is, perhaps, the most beautiful passage of revelation concerning the Mystery of the Cross. According to this Gnostic Scripture, at a certain point St. John became overwhelmed by the horror of the crucifixion and fled to a cave on the Mount of Olives in his grief. The Living Presence of the Messiah came to him, though, and revealed to him the true Mystery of the Cross. In any contemplation of the Light of the True Cross I always suggest the contemplation of this passage from the Acts of St. John, for it speaks very directly, and accurately, of our Gnostic experience of this mystery.

This passage is subtle and sublime, and quite complex, and it best speaks for itself, but here we can share an essential teaching that is in it, one at the very heart of the Gnostic understanding of Christ and what transpires through the Holy Cross. Basically speaking, it teaches that there is the cross of wood, and there is a body of flesh and blood upon it, but within and behind that cross of wood there is a cross of light, the Christ-Spirit, and within and behind the flesh and blood there is a human being of light, the Christ, and above the cross and the image on the cross, there is a great light-presence, the Pleroma of Light; all of this is emanation of the Living Presence of God, the True Light, the source and foundation of all.

It is very interesting that the canonized gospels of orthodoxy end where the esoteric gospels of many Gnostics begin, with the Risen Christ and Ascended Christ. Thus, unlike the gospels chosen by orthodoxy for the consumption of the masses, Gnostic gospels, such as Pistis Sophia, have much to say concerning the revelation and teachings of the Risen Christ, and the heavenly ministry of the Ascended Christ, and they speak of the possibility of direct spiritual and mystical experience of the Risen Christ, and of an actual experience of Light Transmission, or communication of the Christ-Spirit. The Light Transmission that is imparted by the Risen Christ, and by Gnostic Apostles, is called the “Light of the True Cross,” or “Light of Christ” (or Messiah). Thus, this is a phrase indicating the True Chrism, Anointing, with the Holy Light and Spirit of Christ; an actual transmission of the spiritual knowledge and power of the experience of self-realization in Christ – or Christ Consciousness.

In our lineage there is a transmission of spiritual light, corresponding with states of higher, or more expanded mental consciousness, and the corresponding knowledge and power, all as a matter of skillful means in the play of measured blessing, or Simple Mercy. The True Light, though, corresponds with Supernal Light, and so with the light, ruhaniyot and shefa of the Sefirot of Atzilut, the “Mystical Body of the Risen Messiah"; and in the experience of this Light Transmission the distinction between the spiritual light and Supernal Light become very clear – anyone experiencing the spiritual light, and then the Supernal Light, will bear witness of encountering a very different knowledge and power, and they will be aware of the inseparability of the Pleroma of Light and Entirety, or Yichud and Perud.

At the outset of taking up the spiritual practices of the tradition, such as the Kabbalistic Cross, and envisioning light, this is one thing, and at the outset it is rather like a fantasy or controlled daydream. If and when we experience the transmission of the spiritual light, though, it comes alive, and becomes something quite different, an actual invocation of the spiritual light, and if and when we experience the Supernal Light, the True Chrism, the invocation of the Holy Light occurs in oneness, more or less; such that apart from the experience there is no explaining it outside of the experience itself. The experience of this Light Transmission is the true empowerment for all of the spiritual practices in our lineage and tradition, for then we have a Body of Vision based upon experience and knowledge – gnosis or da’at.

We pray for the “extension of the Light of the True Cross” (Shin-Tau, or the Sacred Tau) because it is this that awakens souls, or that enlightens and liberates souls; hence, because it is true salvation.

From a Gnostic perspective, faith alone does not bring salvation, but rather it is gnosis that brings salvation; true faith and love open us to the experience of Light Transmission, and the Gnostic experience that unfolds from it, through which we acquire gnosis, or da’at, of the Messiah.

The True Light brings True Gnosis; hence, the enlightenment experience in Christ.

In the Gnostic Path, when we speak of coming into being as a Light-bearer (or Christ-bearer), we are speaking literally, and naturally, to impart this Light Transmission we must be able to receive it; we cannot give what we do not receive from the Spirit of God.

Here it must be said, though, as the Gnostic gospels point out, here in this world there are also false lights, and so we may encounter deceivers and pretenders, or what are called sorcerers and false prophets in the Holy Scriptures. As in all things spiritual there is a need for discernment, but once we experience the Supernal Light we will never be deceived by a false light, or lesser lights, again, for we will know the True Light and be able to recognize the True Light wherever and with whomever it manifests. As the saying goes, “It will be as clear as day to us.”

Here it must be said that this True and Holy Light is not isolate to the Christian stream, but it manifests through a number of wisdom traditions in the world, and is universal and primordial; in whatever lineage or tradition this Light Transmission becomes manifest, it is an expression of a Primordial Tradition, and a Universal Order of Enlightenment, which we call the “Order of Melchizedek” in the Christian stream. Of anything that calls itself by this name, though, we have good reason to beware, for truly, the holy and enlightened ones of this Order have no great claim to make of themselves, they simply serve as priests and messengers of El Elyon, the Supreme, or the True Light; thus, they bless and they glorify El Elyon, and they uplift souls in return to God, the True Light.

Here we may recall what is taught concerning Melchizedek in the Pistis Sophia, that he is the “light purifier” and “light receiver,” and we may also say light bearer.

If one is a true initiate of this Holy Order they will know how to purify light, and they will know how to receive and impart this Light Transmission, and there will be a witness of the power of the Holy Spirit with them recognizable to other initiates. Truly, they need claim nothing, for the Holy Light and Spirit of the Infinite One will bear witness of them.

This play of Light Transmission, of course, is all the manifestation of Divine Grace, and there is no conjuring it, but through faith and love we co-create the conditions in which it transpires, waiting upon the Holy Spirit in the fullness of hope, confident of the presence and power of the Living Christ and Living God with us.

This Holy Light is distinctly a Living Presence, and it indwells us – stretch out your arms in the Sign of the Cross and gaze within, and behold the Light of the True Cross within you!

If we have been received in Anointed Community, having received our Anointing, this Light-presence and Light-power is within us, and is all around us. Hallelu Yah! Praise the Lord!

In closing we may remember a saying from the Gospel of St. Thomas:

“Whoever has ears should hear. There is light within a person of light and it shines on the whole world. If it does not shine, that person is in darkness”
(24).

O Adonai, we pray to you in the Blessed Name of Yeshua Messiah, may the Light of the True Cross shine into all directions of endless space, into all realms, worlds and universes of your creation, and may all receive the Anointing, and be gathered into you (Atoh). Amen.

Yahweh Shalom!

Shalom Tau,
If we are not at the level of receiving Supernal Light, what is the process of discernment that you recommend so as to be safe from "false lights"?
May we dwell in the shelter of the Most High,
Mark

Greetings and blessings in the Holy Light of the Messiah!

The discernment of lights is completely interconnected with the discernment or spirits, or spiritual forces, for naturally there will be spirits, or spiritual forces, associated with the various manifestations of light. The basic way to discern spirits is to look and see, listen and hear, what contact with them inspires in us, the various thoughts and desires, and such; if what’s inspired is good and true, and is uplifting and godly, then the light and spirit is from God, but if not, then it is an influence of the Other Side, the klippot, and the false light of klippah nogah.

There are four basic grades or levels of light, material, astral, spiritual and supernal, and there are various gradations within each of these. “False light” corresponds with impure manifestation of the material, astral or spiritual light; hence, klippot of light. Quite naturally, as we cultivate faith and love, and progress in the Gospel, and we develop our interior life, our discernment of light and spiritual forces will grow, and more and more we will recognize distinctions in the light, astral and spiritual, and eventually supernal.

Our association with a lineage and community will also help with this, for we can begin to get a sense, a feel, for the True Light, and the various modes of light, and so learn to sense when the True Light is present, or some other manifestation of “light.” As an example, within spiritual teachings themselves, one can begin to get a sense of different manifestations of light-power from one school of thought to another, and so begin to discern lights.

In all of this, an open heart and the intelligence of the heart, or faith and love, is key; love instructs us very well and tends to guard us from error.

Shalom!
