Face of Yahweh (Numbers 6:26)

#1 Postby Tau Malachi » Sat Dec 07, 2013 2:01 pm

Face of Yahweh Uplifted

“May Yahweh lift His face to you” (Numbers 6:26).

If you consider it, on the surface this verse does not make sense, for Yahweh is “That Which Was, Is and forever Shall Be,” the Infinite One, and as such, Yahweh does not change, more over, does the Infinite One, Yahweh, actually have a face and body, and such, that we can say, “May the face of Yahweh turn towards you,” or that, “The face of Yahweh turns away from you”?

In this verse one is reminded of a common blessing, “May the face of Yahweh shine upon you.” With this the questions are the same. Is there, in truth, ever a time when the face of Yahweh does not shine? Does Yahweh have a face so that it might shine? We may call all of this poetic metaphor, yet, as we know, the words of the Holy Torah and Gospel are inspired utterances, and writings, and are revelations of the Holy Spirit, Ruach Elohim, Ruach Yahweh; on a certain level, they means exactly what they say, although not necessarily according to the plain or surface meaning, or literal interpretation.

Listen and hear, and understand! The Holy Sefirot and all reality, all that appears and transpires within all of the Olamot (universes, or worlds), is the emanation of the Infinite One; therefore, while transcendent, and ever beyond all that appears and transpires, the Infinite One is within and behind all that appears and transpires, and the Living Presence and Power of the Infinite One is manifest as all (Kol). In a manner of speaking, the Infinite One is as the soul, and all that appears and transpires is as a body to that soul; body and soul, the Infinite One and what appears and transpires, are inseparable from one another – One Being-Consciousness-Force manifest as the Continuum of Ever-Becoming.

This is the truth of Yahweh and the Sefirot, and the manifestation of the Sefirot in the Olamot (emanation, creation, formation and action); Being and Becoming inseparable from one another.

Understanding this, we may read this verse in another way and gain insight into its deeper meaning, as inspired: “May Yahweh uplift your awareness of His face.” In other words, this blessing is an invocation of a change in our awareness or perception, or our consciousness, so that we might become aware of the Infinite One within and behind all that appears and all that transpires, and manifest as all that appears and all that transpires. On an experiential level, when this awareness dawns and is present, it seems that Yahweh does, indeed, “lift up His face to us,” or that “the face of Yahweh shines upon us”; dependent upon our own awareness, the state of our own mind, heart and life, the face of Yahweh “turns” this way and that way, towards us and away from us; but then, in truth, it is we who are “turning” or “changing,” not our source and foundation, or our essence and nature, Yahweh (Ain Sof).

Understanding this, here we may consider various levels of esoteric mysteries within this verse, for it is rich with esoteric wisdom.

Consider this. The Name of Yahweh corresponds with Tiferet and Zer Anpin (Little Face), and the world of angels has its root in Tiferet and Zer Anpin. Thus, on one level, when it is written, “May Yahweh lift up His face to you,” we may read this, “May the angels of Yahweh see you and come to you, and bless you.” This is how the face of Yahweh, or Zer Anpin, is “lifted up to us” or “shines upon us.” This, too, implies a change in our heart and mind, an uplifting of our consciousness, for the holy angels see us and come to us when we turn to the Holy One, and when we pray and meditate, and worship in the presence of the Holy One, or when we think of them, when we think of heaven.

Consider this. As we know, there are various appearances of the Holy One in dream and vision to the prophets and children of Israel, through angels and archangels, through Partzufim, and through even more sublime experiences of direct revelation in the Holy Spirit or Shekinah, in which it is no longer seeing, but it is hearing, knowing, the Living Word and Wisdom of the Holy One. There are the changing “faces,” appearances, of the Infinite One, which correspond with changes in consciousness, or evolutions in consciousness, of those who are looking and seeing, or listening and hearing – changes in our heart and mind.

Consider this. The Name of Yahweh corresponds with Tiferet, the Sefirah of the Messiah, and therefore, “May Yahweh lift up His face to you” can be read, “May Yahweh send the Messiah to you,” understanding that the one who sees the Son, sees the Father, for the Son is the “face of the Father”; hence, the Name of Yahweh and Yeshua, “Yahweh delivers.”

Understanding the angels and the Messiah as manifestations of the face of Yahweh, so also we may understand encounters with living tzaddikim as another manifestation of the “face of Yahweh,” and therefore read this verse as a blessing that we might meet our tzaddik, and yet more, become tzaddik, a righteous one.

Thus, there are a number of layers of interpretation of this verse reaching into deep mysteries of how we experience and commune with the Infinite One in various gradations and in various ways.

I’m inclined to pause here in this contemplation before sharing anything more, waiting upon the Holy Spirit for her movement.

May Yahweh lift up the face of Yahweh to you. Amen.

Yahweh Shalom!

Shalom,

In seeking to gain additional clarification in regards to the relationship with the Messiah and the World of Angels (as mentioned above) l came upon this older post from Tau:

"What does it mean that Zer Anpin is the Face of God that shines upon us and blesses us? It means that the Supreme (El Elyon) acts through His Holy Shekinah and the World of Holy Angels to administer creative evolution – the angels acting as the intermediary and executive agents of the Divine Will. Typically speaking, in the present human condition, we interact and relate with God through the World of Angels and Holy Shekinah, although through the Messiah we may be uplifted to the communion of the Archangels (Beriyah, the universe of creation), and potentially the World of the Holy Sefirot (Atzilut, the universe of emanation)."

Of course what comes to mind is the final line of the Priestly Blessing:

"May Yahweh lift up his face upon you and give you peace"

It seems it can not be expained to another "who does not know" within themselves "this peace" that can begin to dawn when one finally crosses the endless ocean to find the place where lnner Tzaddik and Outer Tzaddik....begin to meld into one presense and yet incredibly unique reflection.....all through the Grace of our Adonai Yeshua Messiah!

Face of All Directions

#3 Postby Elder Gideon » Sun Dec 08, 2013 3:19 pm

Shabbat Shalom!

What a marvelous mystery! By the uplifting of the Face, I'm hearing how one ascends the rungs of the six attributes radiating from Zer Anpin:

I'm recalling an insight you recently shared, Tau, of how to Patriarchs and Matriarchs, the Infinite One appeared as El Shaddai; to Moses and the prophets, the Infinite One appeared as YHVH; to Messiah as Eheieh. Holding to a singular Tree of Life, El Shaddai is anchored in Yesod of the Action Triad; YHVH is anchored in Tiferet of the Moral Triad; Eheieh is what may be revealed through Da'at of the Supernal Triad. While these three rungs are the transition points of the Middle Pillar, they also hold dimensionalities of all the olamot: Yetzirah is to the time of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs, what Beriyah is to the time of the Prophets, what Atzilut is to the time of the Messiah.

In the "Face of YHVH", I'm hearing an orientation which wraps the viewer from within to without in three-hundred and sixty degrees. One may contemplate omni-directionality of "the Face" in the sacred staff, which is a talisman of all prayer weapons. How? As a portable pillar itself, it symbolically reflects the entire circumference of the land in all directions. If a staff could be made of steel, polished to a mirror-like clarity, all surroundings would find their reflection in its surface. These three-hundred and sixty degrees parallel the columnar, circumferential shape of a staff, often being a meditation for me of "the Face of YHVH."

But this analogy of the Face reflecting all directions of the Sacred Circle is merely the reality arising externally. Of the reality arising internally, this feels like mystery of the Face lifted up, of ascents in consciousness, of higher magnifications of inner space. The Face of YHVH is an internal and external event. Perhaps this is something of what St. Paul is describing, when he concludes, For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known (1 Corinthians 13:12).

What happens to this teaching from St. Paul in regards to the Face of YHVH uplifted?

Gratefully,

Elder Gideon

Gratitude to you who have drawn out this mystery!

A simple search into the letters that compose the word face led to some interesting connections I would share to add to the mystery thus far.

It was spoken above: “May Yahweh uplift your awareness of His face.” With a concordance of spelling, perhaps we may also say:

May Yahweh bless you to strive inwardly, to bring peace and know Peniel, the face of God!

May Yahweh bless that which encircles you to become embodied and realized, to be made p’nimi!

These too seem to speak of the gradual uplifting in awareness and power of Olamot as you mention Brother Gideon. I look forward to what may be drawn out further.

Shabbat Shalom

Shabbat Shalom, Dear Friends!

What a delight to share in your insights! Praise and gratitude to Abba Imma!

In the discussion on Saying 27 from the Gospel of Mary, you spoke, Tau Malachi, teaching us:

This Supernal Realization, this embodiment of our transcendence, corresponds with the Blessed Name, Yeshua, “Yahweh delivers.” Contemplate this well, and understand!

Above, in also teaching on Yahweh delivers, you then shared:

Consider this. The Name of Yahweh corresponds with Tiferet and Zer Anpin (Little Face), and the world of angels has its root in Tiferet and Zer Anpin. Thus, on one level, when it is written, “May Yahweh lift up His face to you,” we may read this, “May the angels of Yahweh see you and come to you, and bless you.” This is how the face of Yahweh, or Zer Anpin, is “lifted up to us” or “shines upon us.” This, too, implies a change in our heart and mind, an uplifting of our consciousness, for the holy angels see us and come to us when we turn to the Holy One, and when we pray and meditate, and worship in the presence of the Holy One, or when we think of them, when we think of heaven...

...Consider this.

Am I hearing correctly, that embodiment is associated with the beings and forces (angelic) that comprise our body of light? And if the angels of Yahweh come to us and bless us, this is the Messiah, this is deliverance? So that transcendence is salvation? Transcendence is embodiment is salvation?

And if our body of light is comprised of the angels of Yahweh, not only has the Face of Yahweh uplifted us, but do we then become a vehicle in this world for the uplifting of others? The angels of Yahweh being both the Chariot of our soul, and that for which our soul becomes a chariot in this world?

In considering Elder Gideon's question, is this seeing face to face? The Face of Yahweh peering into the Face of Yahweh?

Upon reading this teaching, the Face of Yahweh came to mind in every ritual, practice and prayer. The Sacred Circle being the Face of Yahweh, the generation of a Palace of Lights being the Face of Yahweh. It seems that wherever the Radiance of God abides, wherever the Divine Attributes manifest, the Face of Yahweh shines.

When two or more are gathered in My Name, the Face of Yahweh uplifts.

With abundant gratitude,

Sheryl

Grace and peace to you in Hayyah Yeshua!

There are, in truth, various dimensions of the face of Yahweh, indicated by the four letters composing the Holy Name, corresponding with the Olamot-Universes. Yahweh is within and behind all that transpires in the world, and Yahweh is within and behind the manifestation of celestial and elemental forces, and when we are aware of this, when we experience this, so we gaze into the outermost face of Yahweh. Likewise, the revelations of Yahweh, the Holy Scriptures, these are also understood as the face of Yahweh, and as we know there are various levels of the Scriptures, from the simple meaning to the hidden, secret meaning, and there is the written and oral Torah and Gospel, and beyond what is revealed there is the “yet to be revealed” and the "primordial" Torah and Gospel. All of these various levels of the Torah and Gospel are dimensions of the face of Yahweh into which we are able to gaze.

There are, indeed, revelations through El Shaddai, and Yahweh, and Eheieh. El Shaddai corresponds with the awareness of Yahweh within and behind what appears, and yet more through the angels of the Holy One. There are angels and there are archangels, and these correspond with various “faces” of the Holy One. Yahweh corresponds with direct communion with the Holy Shekinah and Holy Spirit in various gradations of nearness, which are beyond the communion and revelations through angels and archangels, and this is an even greater “face” of Yahweh. Eheieh corresponds with communion and revelation through various gradations of unification, at-one with the Holy One of Being; this is the communion and revelation of the Messiah.

In this we may understand that the communion and revelation of Yahweh in the Messiah is greater than that of the angels, just as the communion and revelation of Yahweh with Moses was also greater than that of the angels; hence, the Holy One appeared to the patriarchs and matriarchs as El Shaddai, and spoke with Moses as Yahweh, and in the Messiah was revealed as Eheieh, embodied.

We may also contemplate various gradations of perception of the face of Yahweh through the Holy Partzufim, for all of them are “faces” of the Infinite One, Arik Anpin, Atik Yomin and Adam Kadmon corresponding with inmost faces of the Infinite.

We may also say that these three Holy Names correspond with seeing, hearing and being, understanding that hearing is greater than seeing, and that being, or unification, is the fruition of all; hence, gradations of nearness until there is unification.

The final He of the Great Name corresponds with outmost manifestations of the face of Yahweh, while the Yod, and its tip, correspond with the inmost manifestations of Yahweh; the Blessed Name of Yeshua indicates a holy one, a perfect tzaddik, able to gaze into them all and unify with them all, embodying the Shekinah and Habad of them all.

Thus, in truth, there is face within face within face of the Infinite One, literally endless dimensions of the face of Yahweh (Ain Sof), just as there are literally countless universes and worlds of creation, all emanations of the Living Presence and Power of the Infinite One. In this, perhaps, we may understand the “fear of Yahweh,” or the overwhelming awe and wonder of gazing towards the “face of Yahweh,” and we may understand why, on the one hand, it is said the holy ones have “seen the face of God,” and yet, on the other hand, why it is said “no mortal shall gaze upon my face and live.”

Here we may say, in order to know and love Yahweh, truly, first there must be this fear of Yahweh, or holy awe and wonder of Yahweh, for the fullness of love requires the knowledge of direct experience of the Infinite One, otherwise our love is nothing more than a vital sentiment or concept in the mind, not a full force of kavvanah-concentration and devekut-cleaving.

There is perception, and knowledge, of these various dimensions of the face of Yahweh as our consciousness ascends and expands, and we access the greater and greater intelligence of our soul. At first the knowledge is makifin, encircling, and remains only in the peak experience, but as kavvanah and devekut are aroused, and we labor to embody the truth and light, or word and wisdom revealed, and our running and returning continues, the knowledge we acquire becomes p’nimi, internalized or embodied more and more.

In truth there is one face of Yahweh, but there are countless dimensions, countless gradations of consciousness, through which we can be aware of the face of Yahweh, so that on an experiential level, to us, it seems as though the face of Yahweh changes, or that there are many faces; the appearance of the face of Yahweh changing, or many faces of Yahweh, is a relative truth in our experience, but ultimately there is one face of Yahweh, the Infinite.

Consider this. Yahweh is as a soul to the Sefirot, and the Sefirot are as a body to Yahweh; the Sefirot assume the likeness of a Human Being, who is fashioned in the image and likeness of Yahweh Elohim. Thus, Tiferet is the torso, the Five are the extremities, Malkut is the feet, and the Supernals are the head and face. Understanding this, “May Yahweh lift up his face upon you” can be read as, “May Yahweh uplift your awareness into the Supernals” – Supernal or Messianic Consciousness. In this is the fullness of Habad (Hokmah-Binah-Da’at), or wisdom, understanding and knowledge of the Infinite One.

Let us consider the full blessing from Numbers:

“Yahweh bless you and keep you; Yahweh make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; Yahweh lift up his face upon you, and give you peace” (6:24-26).

This corresponds with three gradations of blessing. “Yahweh bless you and keep you,” this is a blessing that all who have faith within the Community of Israel can receive, the awareness that they are blessed in this life, and that the Shekinah of Yahweh is manifest among them in this life, and will gather then in at the time of death. “Yahweh make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you,” this is an invocation of greater awareness, and greater blessings for those who are able to receive them, a greater outpouring of the light, ruhaniyot and shefa of the Sefirot of Construction, and influxes of the Supernals; hence, a greater awareness of the companionship of the Shekinah of Yahweh in this life, and in the afterlife. “Yahweh lift up his face upon you, and give you peace,” this is an invocation of an even greater awareness and blessing, the uplifting of souls in return to God, the experience of nearness and unification with the Infinite One, and the corresponding Habad of the Infinite One – the enlightenment and liberation of souls.

“May Yahweh lift up his face upon you, and give you peace.” On a certain level there really is no end to this, if we understand what “face” means; there is no end to this in This World, and there is no end to this in the World to Come. In This World, though, as St. Paul teaches, there is a measure, or limit, to what becomes p’nimi at any point in space-time, for much necessarily remains makifin until the World to Come. All in a great and supreme mystery, though, this play of makifin and p’nimi continues in the World to Come, for the immeasurable joy of souls in the World to Come is an unquenchable thirst, or desire, for greater nearness and unification with the Infinite One, and greater wisdom, understanding and knowledge of the Infinite One.

Concerning Peniel, “face of El,” this is among the appearances of the Holy One as El Shaddai; hence, archangels and angels as the “face of the Holy One,” the holy angels being intermediaries between the Infinite One and creation.

May all who desire to receive this great blessing from Yahweh receive it, and may all be uplifted in return to Yahweh, the Infinite One. Amen.

Yahweh Shalom!

Shalom Tau Malachi,

Thank you for your nuanced and thoughtful response.

"There is perception, and knowledge, of these various dimensions of the face of Yahweh as our consciousness ascends and expands, and we access the greater and greater intelligence of our soul. At first the knowledge is makifin, encircling, and remains only in the peak experience, but as kavvanah and devekut are aroused, and we labor to embody the truth and light, or word and wisdom revealed, and our running and returning continues, the knowledge we acquire becomes p’nimi, internalized or embodied more and more."

What l am taking from the above quote is that part of "The Way"....can be a dance of awareness and recognition with the various Faces....
a constant running and returning and interweaving of various gradations of :

El Shaddai/Face appearing to matriachs/patriarchs/Yahweh within and behind what appears/seeing/dance angels and archangels

Yahweh/Face direct communion Moses/hearing/gradations nearness direct communion

Eheieh/Various levels of unification/Messiah embodied/being

I could be off the mark here but what I'm seeing with the evolution of the fiery intelligence through the Patriarchs, Moses to the Messiah is a reflection of each of our journeys in this life. Progress and regress, running and returning all an intricate dance with the One Face.

Thoughtfully,
Star

Shalom Star!

Yes, indeed, the development and evolution of human consciousness that we see in the Scriptures corresponds with stages in the journey of souls as they return to God, each individual having to pass through these vary same stages we have seen in the collective, the Community of Israel.

It is also true that we run and return through all of these different levels, even when there is Supernal Realization.

Blessings,
Malachi

Blessings!

The Face of Yahweh is bringing up the face of the Deep in the first chapter of Genesis. At this time the face of the Deep is beginning to sound like a mirror--perhaps even a body-- to the Face of Yahweh. Is this relationship on target? Also, I cannot help but correlate this relationship with our practice of the Kabbalistic Cross. It certainly seems that we are enacting this same creation story and its continuing fulfillment in proclaiming Atoh Malkut Ve-Gevurah Ve-Gedulah Le-Olam Amen! To proclaim this with ever-deepening habad seems to be what Illumination of Creation is all about.

May we perceive and reflect the Face of Yahweh by the grace of our Holy Mother, for the sake of the people and the land!

Grace and peace to you in Hayyah Yeshua, the Risen Messiah!

If we contemplate the face of Yahweh gazing into the deep, or into the void and chaos, this is the truth of the Primordial One, completely transcendent, nameless and unknowable, concealed. At the outset this void and chaos cannot reflect the Primordial One, for it has no substance and order to do so; Ruach Elohim must enter it and speak, giving “substance” and “order,” and the radiance, light, of the Primordial One must shine within it, giving light and life. Then, indeed, there is a mirror-like quality, and the deep is formed into a “body,” and as creation, formation and making transpires, the Infinite One is reflected and revealed, remaining transcendent while becoming immanent.

This process of creation, formation and making, or revelation, of course, is not an isolate past event, but it is ongoing, and the light of the seven cosmic days of creation continues to shine, all being the emanation, manifestation, of the simple Primordial Light, the radiance of the Primordial One that shone on the first cosmic day.

There is something that we may share concerning awareness or perception of the various dimensions of the face of Yahweh. You see, there is an influx of Ruach Elohim, Ruach Yahweh, corresponding with our awareness or perception of the face of Yahweh. Thus, the more our awareness and perception is uplifted, the greater the nearness of our soul to Yahweh, or the unification of our soul with Yahweh, the greater the influx of Ruach Elohim, Ruach Yahweh – the Holy Light and Spirit of the Infinite One.

As perhaps you might intuit, with every influx the soul is reborn from above and is transformed corresponding with the configuration or pattern of the “face of Yahweh” that is perceived, and greater Habad becomes embodied, joined with greater awe and love. This, in turn, brings about a corresponding regeneration and transformation of creation, this world, the world of angels, the world of souls, and the World of the Holy Sefirot – The Name. Quite literally, through this awakening of souls, this tikkune of souls, there is a new creation, a new humanity, and new heaven and earth being generated, all according to the Supernal Pattern, Supernal Intelligence, so that with the uplifting of souls all creation is being uplifted, or made complete. Our very soul is the emanation of the Spirit of the Creator, Ruach Elohim, Ruach Yahweh, and as such, souls are co-creators, and co-redeemers, having this Creative Spirit, this Divine Intelligence, in them. As souls awaken and become realized, in effect this Creative Spirit is awakening and becoming realized, the One Life-Power is awakening and becoming realized. We behold this truth in the Risen Messiah, the firstborn of a new Supernal Humanity; this holy and enlightened one who embodies conscious unification, and who transcends sin and death, realizing eternal life, or bornless being.

Souls arise from an unconscious primordial unity, primordial ignorance, and in this process the illusion of separation comes into play, and with it self-grasping and self-will, and desire and fear; but there is a Divine Intelligence awakening in souls, and souls are destined to remember and realize their innate unity with the Infinite One – conscious unification. In this, perhaps, we may understand something of the mystery of Divine Grace, that it is the Divine Intelligence awakening in creation, or the fact that this Divine Intelligence is the true being and nature of all.

Ruach Elohim continues to enter and speak, and the radiance of the Primordial One continues to shine; this awakening, this Creative Evolution, is ongoing.

In closing we can also say that the revelation of the face of Yahweh is ongoing, for such is the nature of the Living Spirit and Living God; hence, there are new dimensions of the face of Yahweh being reflected and revealed among us, if anyone has eyes to see and ears to hear. Amen.

May we be blessed to gaze with the eyes of Adam Ha-Rishon from one end of creation to the other, and so may we realize the Eternal Shabbat, the perpetual awareness of Yahweh without end. Amen.

Yahweh Shalom!
