Guarding the Secrets of God (Matthew 7:6)

Guarding the Secrets of God

“Do not give what is holy to dogs; and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under foot and turn and maul you” (Matthew 7:6).

This is a very direct and blunt instruction from Yeshua Messiah, one that is important to those who sojourn the Gnostic Path.

First understand that the law and the prophets - the revelations of the One God through the prophets, is for all humankind, and if and when anyone wishes to hear the Word of God the faithful are called to bear witness and share the basic truths and principles of the Faith - the simple outer teachings of the Gospel. This assumes, however, that there is sincerity and the desire to receive in the listener, and true faith and love in the speaker, and it assumes the exchange is in the Spirit of God; if the listener is not sincere and has no desire to receive, if their heart and mind are closed, then "do not give what is holy to dogs" applies, and a faithful person should not attempt to argue with them or convert them, but rather leave the unbeliever be, and leave them with God.

There is something to understand here, something that has been taught to the prophets and apostles of God. It is given to the messenger to bear the message given to them - and every faithful and spiritual person who has received the Holy Light and Spirit has a message, but it is not given for them to make converts. You see, if anyone is to awaken, or experience a spiritual conversion, self-transformation, it is through the Spirit of God and heaven that it will come to pass. God ‘makes converts,’ bringing souls to faith and setting them in the Straight Path, not you, not me, only God; and likewise, if a soul is led astray, or veiled, and bound up in the ignorance, so also it is in God. God reveals Godself to whom God wills and God conceals Godself from those whom God wills, all in God. Thus, as messengers of the Gospel, the reality of the Messiah and God, it is given to us to bear the Living Word, and share the message when there is some desire to receive it, but not with the thought that we will ‘convert’ people, or bring them to the Faith and set them on the Path, for that is the divine action of the Spirit of God, not an action of our own.

Now, following this Adonai Yeshua says, “…do not throw your pearls before swine,” and this corresponds with esoteric wisdom, inner and secret teachings of the Gospel. Though indeed we are called to share the message and outer teachings of the Gospel with anyone who has a sincere desire to receive, or to listen and hear, unless a person has mature faith and love, and is prepared with a firm spiritual foundation and so is ‘worthy,’ it is not given to us to share the esoteric wisdom, or the inner and secret teachings of the Gospel. These holy things are to be hidden away, as it were, and reserved for those who are ready, those mature in faith and love, and who have been called by the Messiah and Holy Spirit to strive for the realization of the Mystic Truth, or full knowledge of God. There is much to be said concerning this, much that is important for gnostic initiates to whom such esoteric wisdom has been given.

As we know, going within and living within, invoking God, and praying, meditating and contemplating, worshipping God in spirit and truth, and receiving influxes of the Holy Light from ‘above,’ there is an ongoing experience of ascents of the soul to higher stations and states, and with them experiences of ongoing unveilings and self-disclosures of God in our heart and souls, and in this secret mysteries, secrets of God, are revealed and made known to us. When such knowledge of God through inward ‘witnessing,’ or direct experience, is given to us we may share it with our tzaddik and with our sisters and brothers in spiritual community, and we are called to do so, for then it will serve to glorify God, invoke praise and thanks to be offered to God, and may serve to uplift others along with ourselves. It is given that we speak of such things to those who ‘know already,’ as it is said of teachings of the Holy Merkavah. Apart from this, however, such ‘pearls’ are to be ‘kept in your purse,’ which is to say, running and returning in the Spirit, upon returning, stations and states of the soul, and knowledge and power, are to be veiled, concealed, from those as yet unready, or unworthy, to receive esoteric wisdom, or the secrets of God - such things are for the mystics, lovers, and gnostics, knowers of God. Indeed, those ignorant of the Mystic Truth may argue and oppose such divine knowledge, and if shared it may provoke persecution, or alternatively, misunderstandings and distortions may arise, leading to false claims and deceptions with those who are spiritually inexperienced and immature, and so help give birth to strange and false teachings. Either way, the sharing of esoteric wisdom with those unprepared can be harmful to oneself or to others, and therefore it is good to be mindful when and where secret mysteries are spoken, and with whom.

Perhaps you may recall the teachings of the Zohar on dream and dream interpretations, that there is great manifesting power in dreams, and that you should always interpret dreams in a positive light, even those dreams that seem ill-omened or frightful. Likewise, understanding the great power that is in dreams and their interpretation, the Zohar also teaches that you should be careful about who your share your dreams with and your interpretations of them, ensuring that you share them only with those who love you and have understanding, and who will uphold with you a positive interpretation. If this is true of dreams, how much more so matters of higher stations and states, and secrets gleaned from the unveilings and self-disclosure of God in your heart and soul? These are far more powerful, they are holy and are priceless treasures - ‘precious pearls’ of secret wisdom.

Listen! When knowledge of God is given to you, it is given that you share and bear the message of the One God, but you need to be mindful, not heedless, in speaking and revealing, and sharing the knowledge of God, knowledge of the Truth. You need to be mindful of who you are speaking with, mindful of who is speaking and who is listening, and so also, you must be mindful of why there is speaking and revealing, sharing of the knowledge of God. Is it the Spirit of God and divine inspiration that inspires the sharing, does the sharing benefit and uplift others, and does it glorify God and give witness to God, and so inspire turning to God, and praise and thanksgiving to God? Or has the ego taken hold of the spiritual and mystical experiences, and is pride swelling the ego, and is the sharing for self-glorification, as though bragging of having attained a “lofty level,” a high grade or station? If that latter, then you should remain silent and veil yourself for the sake of humility, and indeed repent, turn to God, to deliver and heal you from this klippah, this husk.

Understand, the ‘dogs,’ the ‘pigs,’ can also be understood as the ego and ego-grasping, and the various false selves associated with the ego in the unenlightened condition. These cannot be allowed to take possession of your spiritual and mystical experiences, lest very swiftly it will not be the Spirit of God that leads you, but the spirit of the Other Side, and swiftly you may find yourself removed from the Divine Presence, a thick veil being cast over you - the very husk of ‘otherness’ to which you have given way. God forbid!

This, indeed, you must watch out for and not give way to, but rather seek to avoid.

Understand, the very idea that you or I will bring about the spiritual conversion of another soul is a manifestation of this sort of error. It is the Holy Spirit that ‘converts,’ or transforms,’ lives, hearts and minds, and souls, and whatever spiritual attainments are achieved it is the manifestation of the grace and mercy of God Most High, it is through the divine action of the Messiah and Holy Spirit, not through our own efforts alone. There are no great claims for us to make, but rather all glory, all praise and thanksgiving, belongs to God for what God has done, from God, to God and for God! Praise God!

Now, concerning the sharing of the knowledge of God - secrets of God, or the sharing of teachings and revelations of the Gospel of Truth, whether outer, inner or secret, all sharing, speaking, needs to be from your heart and soul in faith and love, and be in the Holy Spirit, inspired by the Spirit, and so be from God to God. Understand, we are to live inside open and sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and when we are with others and speak with others we seek to do so from the inside to the inside, heart to heart and soul to soul, seeing those we are with in their inwardness, not in their outwardness. We do not wish to speak outside to outside, but rather inside to inside, in the Messiah and Holy Spirit, the Light-presence and Light-power, and in the Spirit we wish to share what is good for those we are speaking with, according to their desire to receive and their need and capacity to receive, not more, not less, but only what is good, what is enough. It is through inwardness and the Holy Spirit that we will know what is good to give, good to share; indeed, for when the Spirit is speaking, and moving, so do we, but when the Spirit is silent, and still, so are we. This is the way of sharing the message and knowledge of God, and truly it is our prayer and aspiration that God be the speaking and the listening, that it is the Divine Presence, the Spirit of God, that communicates itself, from God to God.

There are no doubt more threads of contemplation here, but this seems enough in the moment.

O Holy One, may our voice be as Your voice, and may your Living Word be heard and well received! Amen.

To you it has been given to know the mysteries

Shalom Tau Malachi:

We do not wish to speak outside to outside, but rather inside to inside, in the Messiah and Holy Spirit, the Light-presence and Light-power, and in the Spirit we wish to share what is good for those we are speaking with, according to their desire to receive and their need and capacity to receive, not more, not less, but only what is good, what is enough.

The basic wisdom you've drawn out of this verse is entirely grounded and realistic. I've made many mistakes sharing something richer with others only to have unintentionally sparked a debate that degraded the entire moment. I took the lesson to heart. It was not in God. Rather, it was my good idea. If not in God, then only in the 'other,' God forbid.

The Apocalypse of St. John echoes this same wisdom:

Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy. [...] Outside [of New Jerusalem] are the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood (22:11, 15).

Yeshua's wisdom with whom one is and is not to share deeper truth requires its own maturity living into the larger question of dispensation: those to whom God does and does not intend access revelation. It's a question I'm hearing differently, less with my ego and more with a kind of organic, matter-of-fact reality similar to when nature brings a life form to maturity or not. With a larger cosmology of reincarnation-gilgulim, the apparent fate of a verse such as this from Isaiah suggests a process, rather than an egotistical whim projected upon God:

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’ And he said, ‘Go and say to this people: “Keep listening, but do not comprehend; keep looking, but do not understand.”
Make the mind of this people dull,
and stop their ears,
and shut their eyes,
so that they may not look with their eyes,
and listen with their ears,
and comprehend with their minds,
and turn and be healed
(6:8-10).

Lord Yeshua quotes this same message from Isaiah in response to his disciples who ask:

'Why do you speak to them in parables?’ He answered, ‘To you it has been given to know the secrets [mysteries] of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away' (Matthew 13:10-12).

The question is vast. For me to approach it less egotistically and with more spiritual maturity, one angle might be the naturalness of a process of coming to knowledge of the One. How might we hear Yeshua's wisdom in light of these verses from Apocalyse and Isaiah ?

Grace and peace to you in Hayyah Yeshua!

We may consider the wisdom of farmers and their harvests, for as we know Adonai Yeshua speaks of the spiritual conversion of souls and their return to God, their salvation, as a ‘harvest.’ There are some crops that can be harvested before they are completely ripe and do fine, but for many, even most, it is best to wait until they are nearly fully ripe. Even those that can be harvested somewhat early there is a need to wait until a certain point of growth and maturation of the fruit, and then there are some crops that if not left to fully mature and ripen will be ruined if harvested prematurely. Something similar may be said of the harvest of souls, that before a spiritual conversion, let alone delving into esoteric wisdom or secret knowledge of God, there needs to be a certain maturation and souls need to be ‘ripe’ and so ready for the harvest. Understanding that the journey of souls in gilgulim, transmigration, and their return to God, spans many lives, many incarnations, there are lives in which they will not turn to God, perhaps cannot turn, for as yet they are not ‘ripe’ and mature for ‘harvest’ - in those lives the conditions are not present for them to turn and so, as it is said, they are not predestined to turn, but rather to remain astray, veiled in their ignorance and confusion. In such cases, truly, there is nothing to be done but ‘leave them on the vine to ripen’; hence, to leave them in their journey in the gilgulim until there is sufficient development and evolution of their soul, greater refinement of their being - spiritual maturation. On some occasions, as the Holy Scriptures you cite assert, there may even be an active veiling, concealing, of the message and mysteries to some souls, not just by the messenger, preacher, but by the divine Presence, Holy Shekinah, Holy Spirit.

In what Adonai Yeshua said in the passage you cite on one level he is clearly indicating a message for common people of faith - exoteric religion, and another for the spiritual elect, those called to be mystics and gnostics - esoteric spirituality. Among people of faith there are various gradations or levels of souls, and among the masses of the faithful relatively few are called to be mystics, or to sojourn the Gnostic Path. As we know, the gospels tell us that Yeshua had thousands who loved him and followed him, but the largest number of close disciples that is recorded in the gospels was only one hundred twenty, so very few in companions with the large throng of followers and students. Thus, to very few was it given to him to directly disclose the secrets of the Holy Gospel and God, along with inner grades of unveiling, or light transmission. In any generation, at any given time or place in this world, it is always this way, ‘many are called but few are chosen,’ there are few who are ‘ripe’ and mature in soul, ready for a full turn to God, the True Light.

That said, today there are billions and billions of human beings in this world, and there are millions and millions of faithful people in the various religions of the world, and although indeed ‘few’ in comparison to the entire population, and even the faithful in the world, there are in fact many who are inwardly called to the mystical journey of return, and as Yeshua said of his own time, the ‘harvest is plentiful’ and it is good to pray that God send many ‘laborers into the fields.’ Understand, that there are many in need of faith, and many in need of the knowledge of God - teachings of an actual Self-realization in God, and having the experience of light transmission and knowledge of God to share, so you are sent as a laborer in the fields of the harvest of souls, a messenger of the Living Word of God in this generation, certainly so!

Understand, all who have received the anointing with the Holy Light and Sprit, and who have experienced unveilings and self-disclosures of the Messiah and God in their heart, and so have received their gospel from God and some knowledge of God through ‘witnessing’ revelation, have a message and are a message, and they must carry this message and speak this message as the Holy Spirit inspires. This message, though, must be shared through divine inspiration, when the Spirit moves, and it is not just words, something spoken, but the Truth and Light revealed must be lived and embodied so that, truly, the messenger becomes the message, ‘wearing the body of vision,’ as it were, merged with the Holy Shekinah, the Messiah and Holy Spirit. Thus, to bring the message of the Holy Gospel and Messiah to people you must walk with God and in God, walking in the Truth and Light, and you must strive to manifest the qualities of the Messiah and Holy One - the Divine Attributes; more so, you must seek to let the Holy Shekinah, Holy Spirit, take up your person and life, so that your body is as the ‘body of Messiah,’ your heart is as the ‘heart of Messiah,’ your mind is as the ‘mind of Messiah,’ your soul as the One Soul - ‘Soul of Messiah,’ ‘Soul of God.’ Seeking to let the Divine Presence, Holy Shekinah, Holy Spirit, take up your person and life, so seek to see with God, hear with God and feel with God, and smell, taste and touch with God - and let God be your knowing and speaking! This is the way to bear the message to the people, the Spirit of God being the speaking and revealing, and the Spirit of God being the listening and seeing - you and whomever you are sharing the Truth and Light with being joined in the Divine Presence, the Holy Shekinah, the Messiah and Holy Spirit, more or less, all as God wills and ordains.

You or me, we cannot and do not judge who is worthy and who is not, but it is God who knows and who judges - the Spirit of God; for our part, we love God and we love people, all creatures, and we seek to follow in the Way - Messiah, going where the Holy Shekinah, Holy Spirit, leads us, doing, as it were, what the Messiah and Holy Spirit do, what God wills and ordains. Understand, it may be that we cannot communicate the Gnostic Gospel to everyone, nor share secrets of God with everyone, but it is given that we love all and have compassion for all, and that we are merciful and forgiving, as God is merciful and forgiving, and that we are kind, tolerant, understanding, generous, and so on, seeking always to give what is good to give, seeking to address the needs of each living spirit or soul. In this, even though it may be that we cannot share the Gnostic Gospel, or share secrets of God, we are living the Truth and Light - the Gospel, and we are communicating something of the Gospel of Truth, though perhaps in an indirect and veiled form. In so doing, loving others and being kind, this may stir the souls of some people, some may open their minds and hearts to God, and turn to God, and so come to hear the Living Word and receive the Holy Spirit.

In this way you will co-create with others and the Holy Spirit the conditions in which it is possible for the Spirit to take up her full divine action with, in and through you, and with, in and through them, and very wonderful and powerful movements of the Spirit of God may transpire, ‘spiritual conversions’ and ‘soul awakenings’ may take place, and all manner of blessings may be given and received from God, the Most High. Praise God!

These are a few thoughts it is given for me to share today; there is something more in my heart but this seems enough for the moment.

O Holy One, please fill our hearts with Your Love and give us the wisdom of skillful means in Your Compassion! Amen.

When and when not to judge

#4 Postby Elder Gideon » Sat Sep 01, 2018 9:19 am

Shalom Tau Malachi:

You or me, we cannot and do not judge who is worthy and who is not, but it is God who knows and who judges - the Spirit of God.

Your response to this thread and our conversation of the whole context of this portion of the Sermon on the Mount inclines me to ask for the benefit of those reading how to hear what Our Master is joining together in a series of scenarios of judgment:

‘Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your neighbor, “Let me take the speck out of your eye”, while the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye.

Immediately after this teaching comes your sharing of what follows. Whether this was spoken in one setting or St. Matthew's school sequenced them together, these teachings of when and when not to judge are themselves surprising to me in a way I'd always glossed over until now.

What are you hearing Our Master saying between these two instances of when and when not to judge?

Gratefully,

Elder Gideon

Grace and peace to you in Hayyah Yeshua!

First, understand that all judgment from the outside will be in error, and more so that what is seen and judged, in general, will likely be within oneself. On the surface, outside, in outward appearances, there is no true judgment, and what appears, what is seen, most often reflects ourselves and things within us, and so as we judge we do, indeed, judge ourselves. If we understand this, though, then as such judgments arise we may take them to heart, looking within ourselves to root out any manifestation of what we seem to be seeing in others people. More so, whether seeing one who is righteous or one who is wicked, all become “teachers” to us, for as we look and see, so we may recognize what is good and what is not good, and so know to pursue what is good and true and avoid what is not good and false - rather than judge we may learn and grow, and we may have compassion for ourselves and for others becoming bound up in sin, negativity, and the illusion of separation. This corresponds with ‘remove the log from your own eye.’

Essentially, if indeed we are messengers, preachers of the Living Word - the Gospel of Truth, then first and foremost we must pay attention to living that Truth and Light, and embodying it, and so must pay attention to our own energy, our own thoughts, words and actions, living according to faith and love. In this we become the message, the sign, and so may be the message of the Gospel, Messiah, Oneness, not just in words; our very presence, person and life, being merged with the Divine Presence, Holy Shekinah, or the Messiah and Holy Spirit.

Adonai Yeshua teaches us not to judge from the outside, outside to outside, but elsewhere he teaches, “You shall know them by their fruits,” and likewise speaks of an inward judgement, discernment. Here, when he teaches, “Do not judge…” he is speaking of outward judgments. When he speaks of an apparent judgment of those worthy or unworthy, prepared or unprepared, to receive the Word and knowledge of God, he is speaking of an inward judgment, discernment, assuming one’s own turning to God. In the Messiah we can no longer engage others outside to outside, only in the surface consciousness and our egos, but rather we must seek to be inside - centered within, living from within, and so seek to engage others inside to inside, or inside to outside as is necessary, and we are to judge, discern, from the inside, from inwardness, and so respond to others and what is happening from the awareness of their inside, inwardness. Understand, the inwardness of all things, their very essence and existence, is the Messiah and God, and therefore to judge, discern, things in their inwardness is to ‘see’ them as God sees them, to perceive them as they are in God. Based upon this, also ‘seeing’ the outside as manifest in the moment, so there is right judgment, right discernment, and right response, right thought, right speech and right action in what is happening - a movement in the Spirit of God.

In inwardness, though, you, me, we are not judging, discerning, but rather merged with the Divine Presence - Messiah and Holy Spirit, the judgment, discernment, is in the Divine Presence, from God to God; this is true ‘righteous judgment,’ or ‘discerning wisdom,’ and it does not error.

Listen and hear, and understand! This judgment or discernment inside to inside, and when necessary inside to outside, is the ‘judgment of the heart,’ but it is not judgment as we would think of it, but rather it is love and compassion, and it ‘sides with mercy,’ having forgiveness and understanding in wisdom. Indeed, the heart that is set into the Sacred Heart of the Messiah, the Heart of God, is an infinite spaciousness within which the fullness of the Divine Presence and the Names of God dwells, and in it is room for everyone and everything, so that regardless of the outward manifestation of things, there is love and compassion for all, knowledge of the innate unity, oneness, of all in God Most High, the Infinite and Eternal. To convey a message of heaven and God, or to preach, then becomes of speaking of the Messiah to the Messiah, or God to God, the Spirit of God calling the Spirit of God out, the Spirit of God revealing Itself to Itself, and so there is reception, remembrance - the awakening.

Gnostics do not make converts, some are, some are not; God gives knowledge of God to whom God chooses, God has mercy upon whom God has mercy, all as God wills. The Gnostic, though, as a lover and knower of God, understanding that there is nothing that exists other than the One God, the True Light, loves all, knowing God, the True Existence, as the essential existence of all - loving ‘others’ is loving the Messiah, loving God Most High. It is in this that, conveying the message, preaching the Gospel, there may be an energetic communication, or Light Transmission, and in this there may be a spiritual conversion of a soul, the spiritual transformation of person and life, through the reception of the Holy Light, Holy Spirit - from God to God. Do you see?

Understand, the message - the Gospel, Living Word, Living Presence, is communicated inside to inside.

Consider this. “Where two or more are gathered in my name I am with them.” Understand, gathered as ‘inward’ - inside; hence, ‘two who are inside,’ inside to inside! Do you see?

On the inside, indeed, in your true heart - the heart of your holy soul, there is complete knowledge of God, and so knowledge of all things, and this knowledge, gnosis, da’at, corresponds with righteous judgment, perfect discernment. Truly so, for in this knowing God is the knower, the known and the knowledge - ‘knowledge of God’ (Da’at).

In this light, consider again a phrase you have often heard over the years concerning the riders of the chariot speaking secret mysteries of the chariot: “The rider of the chariot speaks to one who knows already, and to one alone” - hence, insider to insider.

Now, if indeed God has sent me with a message for the people, and I am the message, then I will pray and pray and pray, and meditate deep, and invoke often, and so I will tend the Continuum of Light Transmission, being with and in the Divine Presence, abiding in oneness with the Divine Presence; and so receiving anyone, engaging with anyone, it will be with the Divine Presence and in the Divine Presence, and as the Divine Presence - and the inmost intention will be love, compassion, and giving what is good to give, what is needed in the moment. This is our aim, this is our way - it’s the way revealed to us in the prophets and apostles of God, and the tzaddikim that have appeared in every generation.

You see, the message we are to bring is the Gnostic Path, the Straight Path, and so this is the way to bear the message. So we seek to abide in nearness, or in oneness, seeing with God, hearing with God, and feeling with God, smelling, tasting and touchings with God; turning away from anything that is ‘other than’ God we abide with God and in God, and God is in every direction that we turn, for God is in us and surrounds us an all sides. In this way there is right thought, right speech, right action - the Messiah and Holy Spirit taking up the mind, heart and body, and so there is ‘righteous judgment,’ or ‘discerning wisdom.’

In short, for our part, first and foremost we must engage in a complete and total surrender to God - Divine Grace, and so seek to walk with God and in God, for it is in this that there may be a true preaching of the Gospel and the knowledge of God given to us, a Spirit-filled communication.

In closing do remember that the ‘place’ of God indwelling, and unveiling and self-disclosures, is the heart; as such, preaching, revealing, is a speaking of the heart - the Sacred Heart of Messiah, the Anointing.

This seems enough for the moment.

May your light shine brightly, the light of the Indwelling Messiah in you!

Yeshua Shalom!
