Mystery of Baptism (Matthew 28-28-29)

The Rite of Baptism

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).

This passage concludes the Gospel of Matthew and though it was clearly woven during the early formation of orthodoxy and its trinitarian theology to affirm the “Holy Trinity,” to those with understanding it points to the essential invocation of the rite of baptism, indicating three Names of God to be invoked that reveal secret mysteries of the Messiah and Holy Gospel.

‘Father, Son and Holy Spirit’: the Name of the Father is Yahweh; the Name of the Son is Yeshua; and the Name of the Holy Spirit is Ruach Elohim. Thus, the essential invocation of baptism as understood in our Christian Kabbalah is: Yahweh, Yeshua, Ruach Elohim. These Names of God opening the way to deep contemplation of the spiritual mysteries of baptism and the Messiah - the anointing with the Holy Light and Spirit of God.

As we know, Yahweh is the Explicit Name of God, or ‘Great Name,’ and it literally means ‘That Which Was, Is and forever Shall Be,’ so it means the ‘Eternal One,’ indicating the ‘Infinite,’ or the ‘Supreme.’ Yeshua is, in fact, the very same Holy Name with the addition of one letter - Shin, and literally means, ‘Yahweh delivers,’ and so the ‘Eternal One delivers.’ This implies the Messiah as an emanation of Yahweh, and implies the Messiah as an experience of conscious union with Yahweh, the realization of the Absolute Oneness of Yahweh - Yahweh Achad.

Now, Ruach Elohim is the Spirit of God that moves over the surface of the ‘waters’ at the outset of creation, through which light and life come into creatures and creation, and as we know, in the creation of the First Adam (Human Being) when the Holy One breathed the ‘living soul’ into Adam the Name of Yahweh Elohim is used in the Holy Scriptures, and we may assume that Holy Breath is the fullness of Ruach Elohim. Thus, Ruach Elohim implies a return to the beginning, the fulfillment of the original intention of creation, and more so the giving of light and life to a new creation, a new heaven and earth, and new humanity - the Order of Regeneration, Resurrection.

In this, perhaps, you may understand that Yahweh, Yeshua, Ruach Elohim is a direct invocation of an influx of the Holy Light and Spirit of God - Messiah, the awakening of that divine potential in our soul and spirit, and so an initiation of the indwelling of the Messiah, this Divine Presence in our heart and soul. All the while there is this Seed of Light in us, but turning to God and opening to this Holy Light and Spirit from ‘above,’ so this Holy Seed is activated, and by the Holy Spirit it is nourished and nurtured to its maturation - the realization of oneness with the Messiah in God (Christ or God Consciousness).

Now as we know there is an inward baptism and and outward baptism, for as Yeshua Messiah teaches Nicodemus in the Gospel of John those who receive the Word of God, the Messiah, are to be reborn of ‘water’ and the ‘Spirit.’ The inward baptism is an actual experience of the reception of the Holy Light and Spirit from above, which is often called the ‘true chrism,’ ‘anointing,’ in Christian mysteries, and the outward baptism is an immersion in water, usually a natural body of water. These two manifestations of baptism, inward and outward, go hand-in-hand together, for the outer baptism is an honoring of a commandment of the Eternal One given through Yohanan and Yeshua, and it is a direct action of surrender, submission, to Divine Grace, the Holy Light and Spirit received; going down into the living waters, so we pass away in the Messiah, and rising out of the living waters so we are raised up with the Messiah and live in the Messiah. Rather like a body and soul, however, the outward baptism has no light or life, and is an empty shell or husk without the inward baptism; but receiving the inward baptism, or anointing, so through the outward baptism of water there is an actualization and realization - embodiment, of what has transpired through Divine Grace inwardly, and enacting the outward baptism in complete surrender, submission, to the Messiah and Holy Spirit, we complete this Divine Action, and we are sealed in the Sanctuary of Grace, the Body of the Messiah - Anointed Community.

This truth of the outward and inward baptism is well communicated in the Gospel of Phillip:

“If you go down into the water and come up, receiving nothing, and say, ‘I’m a Christian,’ you have borrowed the name at interest. But if you receive the Holy Spirit, you have the name as a gift. And a gift you do not pay back. But if you have borrowed at interest, you must pay. So it works when you have passed through mystery.”

As reflected in this passage the outward and inward baptism go together, but without the inward, the anointing with the Holy Light and Spirit of God, the outward is invalid, it is nothing. If there is a claim to the inward, though, but a refusal of the outward, then apparently there is a misconception of the inward, and the Divine Action is left incomplete, imperfect, unfulfilled.

This is the essential initiation into the Way that Adonai Yeshua taught his disciples, the actual initiation assuming a capacity to communicate the Holy Light and Spirit of God to others, awakening the Holy Seed within souls; and in that he states “I am with you always, to the end of the ages,” so this call to enact the rite of baptism remains in place. As we have seen from one generation to another, if and when the communication of the Holy Light and Spirit is lost in existing lineages, it is revived through Divine Grace raising up other spiritual communities that bear this this Holy Anointing, this Light Transmission, and so it continues to this day, and will continue until the fruition of the End-Of-Days.

Yeshua says to his disciples, then and now, “I am with you always,” and as we know he taught us that “where two or more are gathered in my name I am with them,” and also when “two or more agree” on anything it will be done as you have spoken it. So it is with baptism because at minimum there are two, one having received baptism sharing the baptism with another, both gathered in the Blessed Name and agreeing in faith and love, of one mind and heart in the Messiah. Usually, though, as is our way, there are two initiates baptizing, holding this space of two gathered and agreeing for those passing through this Holy Mystery and being joined to the Body of Messiah, Anointed Community. Whenever and wherever the outward and inward baptism happen, so that Holy Light and Spirit is in that place a radiates outward to the people and the land so that others might also be touched by the Spirit and the Holy Seed in them be activated, awakened, calling them to the baptism, the rebirth from above, from the kingdom of heaven.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…,” this Holy Gospel, the coming of the Messiah, is for all humankind, and so this baptism is open to all who seek it and desire to receive it. Truly it may be said that with the First Coming it is as though Light Seeds of the Messiah were cast out upon earth and implanted within all humankind, though indeed from one to another there may be varying conditions of reception as Adonai Yeshua’s parable of the “sower of seeds” reflects. Yet do understand, the inmost aspect of every human soul, yechidah, the divine spark or unique essence, is the emanation of this Holy Light and Spirit of God, and so is as this Holy Seed of the Messiah deep within awaiting its germination, awakening, through water and the Spirit, or water and fire - an influx from heaven.

These various mysteries of baptism and the Holy Names of the essential invocation run deep, and so there is much more that may be considered. This is a brief overview to begin a thread of contemplation and discussion, which for the moment seems enough for a start. Let us abide a while waiting upon the Spirit of the Lord and see where the Spirit carries our contemplation.

May many be touched by Ruach Elohim, the Spirit of God this day, the Seed of Light being awakened in them and leading them to remember and return to God, the True Light! Amen.

Yeshua Shalom!

Ruach Elohim

#2 Postby Elder Gideon » Sat Nov 10, 2018 10:35 am

Shalom Tau Malachi:

Many thanks and praise to the One for this essentialization of the Rite of Baptism in our lineage.

As you and I recently discussed this, I hoped to draw out more detail regarding the relationship between Ruach Elohim and the Spirit of Messiah. Jewish midrashim equate the Ruach of Elohim moving over the deep with the Spirit of Messiah. This suggests that the Spirit of Messiah spoke with and as Elohim with every utterance of Creation. Your relating Ruach Elohim with the mystery of baptism fascinates me.

Moreover, you asked me of the gemmatria of the letters spelling Ruach Elohim. They sum 300, the very same as the Hebrew letter Shin in the name Yeshua. The dimensionality of YHVH becoming embodied by Yeshua seems to unfold and transmit to many more through Ruach Elohim. Suddenly, the descent of the dove suggests other textures, even more when we remember that the Pistis Sophia opens with the image of a sublime space of transmission: the Father in the form of a dove.

What more might you share of these essences in our Rite of Baptism?

Gratefully,

Elder Gideon

Grace and peace to you in the Holy Light of the Messiah!

As it is with all spiritual mysteries, or mysteries of God, there is no end to the fathoming of the mystery of these Holy Names in the baptism, nor of the rite of baptism itself; though so simple and essential, it is a great mystery through which we pass as we go down into the living waters and rise up anointed with the Holy Light and Spirit of God. In that moment of the inner baptism, our anointing, the Word of God, having been conceived in us in our call to faith, is born in our soul through the Holy Spirit. Thus, truly, the Messiah and Holy Spirit indwells us, and the Holy Light of the ‘first day’ shines from within us, that light which is ‘stored up for the righteous.’

All in a great and supreme mystery, the fullness of the Divine Presence, Shekinah of Yahweh, indwells Yeshua Messiah, as indicated by the letter Shin in the Blessed Name of the Messiah, Yeshua, Yoshua; in him the Word and Spirit of God (Ruach Elohim) was ‘incarnate,’ embodied, the Word that was uttered by the Spirit of God, through which all creation came into being, heaven and earth and all of the countless realms, worlds and universes. This was embodied in the person of Adonai Yeshua, his soul merged and unified completely with this Divine Presence, Shekinah of Yahweh, but though this Divine Presence was embodied in full in Adonai Yeshua, Yahweh remained transcendent, ever beyond; hence the distinction between the ‘Father’ and ‘Son,’ or God Most High and the Messiah.

Understand, Adonai Yeshua was, and is, the ‘Perfect Human Being’ - ‘Perfection of Adam,’ and as such the fulfillment of the original intention of Yahweh Elohim in creation, the unification of heaven and earth, God and humanity, and indeed, God and all creation. As the Word was conceived in the womb of the Virgin Mother and came into Yeshua at the Sacred Jordan through the Holy Spirit, so it is with us in our baptism, inner and outer, and this is our rebirth from above, from heaven, but more so, returning to the beginning, from the beginning, as we are ‘restored’ to the innate perfection of the original Adam, Adam Elyon, before the division of male and female, and the fall.

Shin, 300, Ruach Elohim, 300, this is the great influx of the Supernal Light and Spirit manifest in the Messiah and pouring forth from him through which the Living Word is conceived and born in our soul, and we are reborn in the image and likeness of the Supernal Human Being - Adam Elyon, which is the true image and likeness of Yahweh Elohim.

Ruach Elohim is the Spirit of the Messiah, the Word, because she is the Spirit of Creation - ‘Mother of Creation’ if you will, and creation is completed, perfected and fulfilled in the Messiah, and in the Messiah there is a new creation, a new heaven and earth, and a new humanity supernal and divine. Therefore, just as the first creation came into being through Ruach Elohim uttering the Word of God, so the restoration of that creation and the new creation came into being, and is coming into being, through Ruach Elohim uttering the Word of God.

Now you may recall that in the Gospel of Matthew it is written that When Adonai Yeshua came to Yohanan the Baptist to be baptized at first Yohanan was reluctant. It is written:

“[Yohanan] would have prevented him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?’ But [Yeshua] answered him, ‘Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness” (3:14-15).

There is spiritual and metaphysical significance to this version of the baptism of Adonai Yeshua, and as we know the passage goes on to recount the Holy Spirit coming upon the Master as he rises from the waters, descending upon him “like a dove alighting on him.” Going into the waters, receiving the Holy Light and Spirit from above - from Yahweh, so the fullness of the Spirit came into Yeshua, and through him into the waters, purifying, consecrating, sanctifying the waters, making them ‘living waters’ to convey the Spirit to those who seek baptism in true faith and love, giving birth to the indwelling Messiah, the Word of God in them. So the “Father in the form of a Dove,” emanation of the Shekinah of Yahweh, and this corresponds with Ruach Elohim ‘flying over’ the waters and entering into them, the initiation of a new creation, new heaven and earth, and new humanity - perfection of the Human One (Adam).

Just as Adonai Yeshua submits to baptism, opening the way for us, so do we submit to baptism, and quite literally, metaphysically, on a spiritual level, we go down in the waters with him, and are ‘buried with him,’ and we are raised up from the waters with and in him, being raised up in the resurrection and ascension. This was the first divine action of his Great Gesture, and as we know and understand, the second divine action was the cross; baptism and the feast of bread and wine holding and celebrating this mystery of salvation, or enlightenment and liberation in the Messiah.

Ultimately, of course, these ‘two actions’ are one Divine Action that is twofold, coming in and going out, descending and ascending, running and returning, moving and moving-not; what was begun in the baptism was completed through the cross, the fullness of the Holy Light and Spirit, Shekinah of Yahweh, Shekinah of Messiah, being poured out and made manifest in this world. Hallelu Yah! Praise the Lord!

I can say no more in the moment.

May many be blessed to receive the Spirit that gives true life this day! Amen.

Shalom Aleichem!
