Ophanim & Vegitation

#1 Postby Phillip » Tue Mar 01, 2005 7:25 am

Dear Tau Malachi,

I've been contemplating the place in the Zohar where it talks about the vegitation on the third day, specifically, the "Herbs for the service of man" as Ophanim, Kerubim and Chaiyot. Specifically, I wanted to probe this Ophanim idea, the wheels. When we consider that different trees, like the almond tree that blooms this time of year and in Janurary, which is then associated with the first bloom of the year and thus the resolution of the strife on the third day brought up by Korah and his bands. Here is a particular energy intelligence, which the story helps to draw out and portray, however, behind this are we looking at an Ophanim, which this cyclical blooming of the almond tree embodies, and all of these diverse cycles of plants blooming embody according to the timing of their blooming and fruition? Are these diverse bloomings of the diverse plants the literal bodies of the Ophanim, touching down in this plane in their wheel-like cycles at that particular point in the year?

An Array of Angelic Forces

#2 Postby Tau Malachi » Tue Mar 01, 2005 11:41 am

Greetings Brother Phillip!

First it must be said that the Zohar does not necessarily mean "plants" literally when speaking about Genesis and the orders of angels - it is a symbolic dialogue of the metaphysical dimensions of creation; hence the Sefirot as they occur at various levels.

Ofanim are associated with cycles, as we see in the movement of the sun, moon, planets and stars, and the seasons and such - they are the spiritual beings-forces of these movements (the Life-power within and behind these movements on a larger scale). We could not say that they are the blossoms exactly, but rather the spiritual force in a cycle that may invoke the activity of blooming (in this case the spiritual forces of Spring). Some would say that the actual movement and manifestation of things corresponds to the power of the Ashim inspired by the influence of the Ofanim. Of course other orders of angels would also be involved, as the action of the World of Angels is more akin to a concert of various choirs acting together according to the Divine will and kingdom.

We could also speak of the influence of the elohim and Beni Elohim, along with the Kerubim in this process. In terms of drawing down the influence of the upper spiritual world we might also include the activity of the Serafim and Hayyot as well - in other words an entire array of spiritual forces is involved.

This play of an array of spiritual forces reflects the truth of the interdependence and interconnection of all things in creation - "as above, so below; as below, so above."

For everything that occurs in the material dimension there is a corresponding play of spiritual forces within and behind it. On this level what the Zohar is saying is literal, for this is exactly what we see in the experience of the Light Continuum as we receive the Gnostic and Light Transmission.

One cannot help but contemplate the interrelationship of the angels of our Heavenly Father and the angels of our Earthly Mother in this, for in the Light Continuum they appear inseparable from one another.

May the Mother Spirit open our consciousness to new dimensions and give us knowledge and understanding of the World of Angels, amen.

There is much here to contemplate, but initially, my contemplations have been drawn to this line in particular,

"Some would say that the actual movement and manifestation of things corresponds to the power of the Ashim inspired by the influence of the Ofanim."

This seems to connect to the teaching in the Christian Kabbalah which assigns the Ophanim to the Sephirot of Chokmah and Ashim to the Sephirot of Malkut. Also, my mind is drawn in connection to this to the teaching that the root of the Nephesh is in Chokmah as that which generates Nepheshim. So I wonder if this is the link between these angels, Ophanim the angelic forces operating on a larger scale, as you mentioned, as in generating Nepheshim, whereas the energy behind the manifestation of the individual Nepheshim in their diverse forms, occurs as the Ashim? There seems to be behind this a teaching of an interconnected flow of angelic influence between the Ashim and Ophanim?

The Interconnection

#4 Postby Tau Malachi » Wed Mar 02, 2005 12:51 pm

Greetings Brother Phillip!

Yes, exactly, you caught what I was getting at, just as it is taught in the Sefer Ha-Zohar.

You my also consider the Serafim as "fiery serpents" in this, for certain classes of Serafim are involved in the process of generating Nefeshim in conjection with the Ofanim and Ashim; hence applying a restriction on the life-force through which individual life-forms are generated. Here we gain deeper insight into what is meant by the Sefirot as divine names on one level, but as archangels, orders of angels and celestial spheres on other levels - the workings of the metaphysical matrix of creation.

Here we are talking about the interaction of the Sefirot at the level of Yetzirah, the World of Angels, and how the material dimension is formed on the inner vital level.

If we use the model of the physical, vital and mental, then Asiyah is the physical, Yetzirah is the vital and Beriyah is the mental - Atzilut is the supernal or supramental. (See Gnosis of the Cosmic Christ, page 8, and you will notice that what is meant by "Mind" or Mochin is, in fact, Supramental, "Thought" representing what we typically call the mind or mental consciousness.)

Do not be distracted, however, but continue in this contemplation of the interaction of the orders of angels as the interaction of the Sefirot at the level of Yetzirah. There is much to be gained from this contemplation!

Dear Tau Malachi,

This is a great contemplation, thanks!

So far this is how I see it fitting together in Yetzirah so far. The Ophanim are the cycles of energy, containing all the movements in them as the whole movement, the Auralim the space, thrones, in which these cycles take place. But the radiance of these are the Chasmalim, the shining ones in Chesed, which could explain why the first day starts here... light meaning the first EMERGENCE or appearance of the light. The Seraphim, as you said, would begin to divide and distinguish this light into more individual manifestations(and God divided the light from the darkness). Here might emerge the elohim, the rulers, principalities and dominions, which are the actual realms containing this light, as well as the rulers of the realms and the rules that govern them. The Malachim then might operate as the “Messengers” between the influx of light and restriction of light between the Seraphim and Chasmalim, delivering this light to these realms, or not, depending upon the balance dictated by the Seraphim. The Beni elohim, or “Sons of elohim” seem to be the forces that emerge from these Rulers, Principalities and Dominions in order to facilitate and enact the will of the Rulers (which could explain their power to literally possess people).

But here, at the Kerubim and Ashim I’m getting lost… could it be that the Kerubim act to the Ashim as the Malachim do to the elohim? Do they transmit the energy/light influx from the elohim, rulers, principalities and dominions to the Ashim who carry this out in the material plane? I’m also uncertain about the Hayyot at the outset of this as well.

yours,
phillip

Angelic Orders

#6 Postby Tau Malachi » Thu Mar 03, 2005 11:48 am

Greetings Brother Phillip!

Aralim-thrones are more akin to the authority given to a Ruler/Principality, the Dominion being the expression of that divine authority and space in which the activity transpires, the Beni Elohim being and individuation of this. Kerubim, you will recall, are guardians of gates and are the gates themselves, hence an order of angels that facilitates shifts or transitions between realms, worlds, universes or dimensions. They are also angels that set things into motion, as in the movement of the merkavah. Thus, in relationship with the Ashim they serve to facilitate manifestation from one level to another and serve as guardians of the process or movement. (Note their association with Yesod-foundation, and consider them in relationship to the Ofanim of the merkavah - setting the Ofanim in motion.)

The Hayyot, of course, represent the divine potential of everything that has, is or shall manifest in the cosmic cycle; the divine potential the orders of angels labor to reveal and manifest (the Divine Ratzon).

How does one gain more insight into the operations of these orders of angels? Well, dear friend, contemplate them in diverse activities in creation and life (As above, so below; as below, so above). How does one realize the spiritual power of the angels? I suppose one strives to open one's consciousness to their dimensions and to invoke them and experience them directly.

Shalom Malachi and Phillip!

I'm curious about the connection between Binah (Aralim-Thrones) and Netzach (elohim-Dominions). The connection between Thrones and Dominions seems clear enough, yet looking at the divine name for Binah, Yahweh Elohim and the order of angels of Netzach, elohim, this seems to indicate a hidden path. Am I on to something here or going down the garden path?

Blessings!

Elohim & elohim

#8 Postby Tau Malachi » Thu Mar 03, 2005 1:25 pm

Greetings Sister Rebekah!

The play of divine names is at the level of Atzilut, the play of the orders of angels is at the level of Yetzirah. The interconnection of the orders of the Aralim and elohim of Binah and Netzach, respectively, has its root in the interconnection of the divine names Yahweh Elohim and Yahweh Tzavaot, LORD God and LORD of Hosts.

Binah is the sphere of the great archetypes, hence the great cosmic powers, Netzach is the sphere representing the manifestation of the cosmic power on a more local or regional level, in a manner of speaking. One might consider it in terms of a large nation's government like the United States, from the federal level to the state level, then, of course, there are more local levels of government, counties and cities/towns. Binah is akin to the federal level and Netzach is akin to the state level - the two being inseparable and yet distinct from one another.

Something similar occurs in the play of cosmic forces from a universal to a galactic level, and then to a regional level, which then translates itself to the most localized level of a solar system. Elohim proper, represents great cosmic forces on a universal and galactic level, Tzavaot represents the play of cosmic forces on a galactic and regional level, and the elohim represent potent spiritual forces on a most localized level.

We could say that the link between the divine names is how the Divine will and Divine kingdom become translated from a universal to a galactic level (a process in which archangelic forces are intimately invloved). In much the same way we can say that the link between the Aralim and elohim is how the Divine will and Divine kingdom are translated from the galactic level to the regional and local level.

Of course, in terms of divine names, archangels and orders of angels we are speaking of the inner metaphysical dimensions of the cosmos - the macrocosm. Asiyah is the level at which these forces manifest in the material dimension of the universe; hence the Sefirot of Asiyah manifesting as the sun, moon, planets, stars and elemental powers. From one dimension to another it is a fluid flow of Or Ain Sof, the Light of the Infinite, though each progressive "externalization" is a more restricted manifestation of the Supernal Light. Atzilut is the least restricted and Asiyah is the most restricted.

Atzilut is Yod of the Great Name, Yetzirah is Vau of the Great Name; Beriyah and Asiyah are He, the first and finale. Yod and Vau are intimately connected, for Vau is the extension of the power of Yod. Thus Atzilut and Yetzirah are intimately interconnected, Yetzirah being the extension of the power of Atzilut - the formation of the Light emanated. Atzilut is within and behind Beriyah, as Yetzirah is within and behind Asiyah; Beriyah is the matrix revealing the secret workings of Atzilut and Asiyah is the matrix revealing the secret workings of Yetzirah. Of course, these twin matrixes represented by the two He (5) are contained in the Yod (10), and in the Great Name it is Vau that joins the twin matrixes - hence the operation of the World of Angels/Maggidim.

Elohim is the name of Supernal Light manifest as the great matrix and Tzavaot is the name of the Supernal Light manifests as the multiplicity of matrixes within the great matrix. It would seem that there are Aralim and elohim of the great matrix and Aralim and elohim of the matrixes within the great matrix - for the orders of angels range from great spiritual forces to significantly lesser spiritual forces, having a vast spectrum of "classes" among them.

I'd call that a connection!

May the Mother reveal her Pleroma of Light to us, amen.

Shalom Malachi and Phillip,

Thank you for your reply, Malachi, it is most helpful and delightful!

I've been following the discussion of the Way of Work, and it is interesting to consider the elohim in terms of matrixes when we consider the Way of Work associated with Netzach and the archangel Uriel. It seems when we are not the doer, but rather the Mother Spirit is the doer through us, we serve to facilitate the matrixing of positive spiritual beings - angels!

Blessings,
Rebekah

Angelic Forces

#10 Postby Tau Malachi » Sat Mar 05, 2005 11:26 am

Greetings!

We can, indeed, become vehicles or channels of angelic beings-forces, just as we can be vehicles of the Supernal Light-presence and Light-power. In fact, while the actual attainment of Supernal or Messianic Consciousness might be a rather lofty aim for many, the angels (maggidim) are accessible to all human beings, for they serve as a link or interface between God and humanity, along with the tzaddikim.

Quite naturally, if we open ourselves to the Light from above, and seek to be servants of the Divine will and Divine kingdom, the presence and power of angels will be with us, and they will minister to us and help to facilitate our conscious evolution towards Christhood.

On a practical level the invocation of angels is as simple as positive thought, speech and action, for that which is positive and luminous attracts them, and according to our thoughts, words and deeds we link with corresponding spiritual beings-forces.

It is said that the human one is created in the image and likeness of God, for a while a little lower than the angels - they are elder siblings. As the image and likeness of God, we are designed to be cocreators with God and to embody God - thus we are naturally vehicles or channels of spiritual beings-forces. It is not a question of whether or not we will 'channel' spiritual forces, but rather it is a question of what kind of spiritual beings-forces we link ourselves with. We are wise to seek an association with the holy angels of God, as with the Anointed and Mother Spirit. Yet we must also say this: that we should not become over focused on the angels so that we fail to cleave fully to the Anointed and Mother Spirit, or cease from our labor towards actual Self-realization in Christ. Likewise we must understand them as elder brothers or sisters, and not fall into the worship of angels, just as we would not fall into worship lesser gods and goddesses.

In terms of the orders of angels, and their roles in the matrix of creation, we can say something more of the Malachim. Corresponding to Tiferet at the level of Yetzirah, they may be understood as the spiritual energy behind the knowledge or consciousness unfolding through life-forms or nefeshim, which is the balance of the activity of the Hashmalim and Serafim.

On the note of elohim, while some might be akin to matrixes, perhaps - they are more than matrixes, for they are also forces of Nature, and among them are the lesser gods and goddesses, among other things. As with all of the orders of angels, there are many different kinds of elohim, and likewise they range from divine to admixed to dark and hostile - the World of the Angels is a complex and non-linear reality. All of our words are a dim and partial reflection of the inner dimensions.

Blessings & shalom! :)
