The Forty-Second Names

The Forty-Second Name of Gevurot: Mem-Yod-Kaf


When beams of light are concentrated they can become a laser beam with incredible power; in a similar way, when the mind is focused and there is faith, the power of the mind can bring about amazing wonders.

Adonai Yeshua teaches us that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, the smallest of seeds, by the power of concentration we can “move mountains”; as hard as this might be to believe in our unenlightened condition, for those who have drawn close to a living tzaddik or wonderworker to witness first hand the possibilities of the power of God in our soul it is a simple truth to which they can testify, knowing the play of wonders in their own experience.

This is a Holy Name that can empower us to work great wonders – it is the empowerment of faith and kavvanah-concentration.

In the process of cultivating our capacity of contemplation and meditation – hitbonenut and hitbodedut, we discover a very interesting truth: when we concentrate the mind, narrowing its focus, the mind or consciousness is elevated and expands.

Empowering kavvanah-concentration, there is power in this Name of God to elevate and expand our consciousness – the force of Mochin Gadlut is in the Holy Name.

Now, in conjunction with this, when we wish to initiate a new movement in our lives and the world, or we wish to plant a seed, as it were, and bless what we initiate so that it might come to fruition – a fruition even greater than we might envision, calling upon this Holy Name what we initiate or plant will be blessed to come to its fruition, all klippot that might prevent its eventual fruition being banished from the very outset.

As you might imagine, this is a Holy Name that tzaddikim and navim may call upon in their prayers when they have imparted an initiation or empowerment, praying for the fruition of the initiation or empowerment in the person.

Along a similar line, tzaddikim and navim may also call upon this Name of God to send forth ivurim, sending a holy spark of their soul into another soul as a way of blessing and empowering them.

This is also a Holy Name that is called upon for the sake of invention, discovery and creativity – when new ideas and inspirations are needed, or it is time to fashion a new vision and paradigm; in this there is a prophetic element within this Holy Name, invoking the revelation and realization of the greater Divine Potential and Divine Intention.

From this, perchance, you may acquire some insight into this Holy Name of God.

A Meditation with the Name: The Blessing of Kavvanah

When you have practiced study and contemplation, and prayer and meditation, with kavvanah daily for some time, and seek a blessing and empowerment for the development of greater kavvanah – in faith ask God to bless and empower you, and call upon this Holy Name, receiving God’s blessing and grace through it.

Go and sit, and abide in Primordial Meditation – resting your mind in its own intrinsic nature, abide in communion with the presence of God in the moment, aware of your innate unity with the source of all being, God, the True Light.

Then, join your soul to the Sefirot of the Pillar of Compassion from height to depth, and reaching Adonai, unify Yahweh and Elohim, and unify Yahweh and Adonai:

Ah-Ya-Lo-Ha-Hi-Va-Yi-Ha-Mi

Ah-Yo-Da-Ho-Na-Vo-Ya-Ho

Pray for the blessing and empowerment you seek, and then intone the Holy Name:

Mi-Yo-Ku

Receiving the blessing, return to Primordial Meditation, and concentrating, enter into the gap at the end of your exhalation, resting the mind in it.

When the mind moves again, pray for all your relations, that all beings might be blessed and be happy. This completes the movement.

This is the practice.

A Practice among the Navim: Blessing the Light Seed

Whenever a holy tzaddik or navi shares an initiation or empowerment with a spiritual friend, or whenever the Light Transmission passes between them and another soul, always they give praise and thanks to God, and they take up a continuum of prayer and meditation for that person in the days following, praying that they are blessed by God to integrate what they have received and bring the implanted seed of light to full fruition. At times, taking up a continuum of prayer for a spiritual companion in this way they may call upon this Holy Name to further bless and empower the person.

The holy one will call upon Ha-Shem and the Divine Powers, and they will give praise and thanks for the Light Transmission that has taken place, and for the Sanctuary of Grace made manifest in Yeshua Messiah and Kallah Messiah, and they will praise the great and mighty works of El Elyon, and all of the wonders that Yahweh has brought about – remembering all whom they have received and initiated, all who have been given to them by the Holy Spirit, they will pray for all and uplift all, and they will pray that the Continuum of Light Transmission remain in the world.

Then they will remember the person with whom they have shared the experience of Light Transmission through the good grace of God and the dance of the Holy Shekinah, and they will arise in Body of Glory as the image of Hayyah Yeshua and envision their spiritual companion before them in Body of Light.

Holding this sacred friend in their heart they will ascend the Holy Tree joining their soul to each rung in ascent, praying for, and blessing, their companion, and uplifting their soul with them, and in union with Eheieh they will unify the Divine Names of the Middle Pillar in descent, gathering all into Adonai.

Then, before their sacred friend in the inner dimensions, they will engage the Light Transmission as before in the material dimension, and in the midst they will intone the Holy Name: Yo-Ma-Ha-Ya-Vo-Ka-Hu

Then they will intone the Name: Ma-Ya-Ka, with the conscious intention that the full reception, integration and fruition of the spiritual initiation or empowerment might come to pass.

When they have done this, returning to their material body they will celebrate a Holy Wedding Feast, praying that all living spirits and souls might receive the Light Transmission and be received into the Sanctuary of Grace, and in this sacred ceremony they will receive spirits and souls into Holy Sanctuary – when they speak as the Divine I Am in the fruition of consecrating the bread and wine, they will seal the blessing of their sacred friend and confirm the reception of all who have been received; then partaking on behalf of all, they will extend the Light of the True Cross and praise the LORD. This completes the movement.

This is the practice.

Angels of the Name

The angels of this Holy Name are Madriel, Yotniel and Kadshimael; they are of the order of the Serafim and are among the holy angels that labor directly with the tzaddikim in the Continuum of Light Transmission.

This concludes our sacred discourse on the Forty-Second Name of Gevurot through the grace of God’s revelation and the dance of the Holy Shekinah. Hallelu Adonai – Praise the Lord! Amen.

The Forty-Second Name of Hasidim: Lamed-Lamed-Dalet

Study and contemplation of the deep mysteries of the Holy Torah and Gospel, prayer and meditation, and sacred ceremony – our spiritual practice and worship, is made effective by kavvanah and devekut, the concentration of the mind and the yearning or passionate cleaving of our heart in faith; the Forty-Second Name of Gevurot empowers kavvanah and the Forty-Second Name of Hasidim empowers devekut.

When you have a need for greater energized enthusiasm and passion in your spiritual life and worship, or need to rekindle the threefold flame of faith, hope and love in your heart, call upon this Holy Name.

Of course, by nature, devekut is zeal and passion for life – all of life being spiritual and divine to the faithful and spiritual person; thus, as much as increasing our passion in worship, the power in this Holy Name can increase and uplift our passion for the whole of life – all becoming a way to cleave to the Messiah and Shekinah of the Messiah.

You might say that this Name stokes the embers so that flames leap forth and we might be on fire with the Holy Spirit!

Then, there is another mystery associated with this Name of God – in the Holy Scriptures, and in all spiritual teachings, there is the outer, inner and secret level; in contemplation of the Scriptures and esoteric teachings, when initiates wish to gain insight into the inner and secret levels they may call upon this Holy Name, for it holds the power to help us look and see into the deeper layers of meaning and mystery, and even to venture into the Divine Mind from which all revelation flows.

In much the same way the tzaddikim and navim might called upon the Forty-Second Name of Gevurot to bless the reception of the Light Transmission with one of their friends, likewise when they see a friend who is greatly encumbered and obstructed so that they cannot receive much in the way of Light Transmission, the tzaddik or navi might call upon this Holy Name to open the way for the reception of the Light Transmission – in it is the power of opening the way on many different levels.

The most significant level of opening the way in this Holy Name, however, is the opening of the door of the heart – that door upon which Adonai Messiah knocks, and promises us that if we open it and invite him in that he will enter and commune with us.

Now having spoken of all of this we may speak of a more esoteric level of this Name of God – the two Lamed equal 60 and the Dalet is 4; the two Lamed are the Sefirot of Zer Anpin in the Moral Triad and Action Triad, and Dalet is the Four Foundations of fire, water, breath and dust in Malkut – this Holy Name invokes an influx of the power of Zer Anpin into Nukva-Daughter, and through it she becomes Imma-Mother, giving birth.

Thus, initiates who have knowledge of this deep mystery may call upon this Holy Name invoking these influxes, drawing down blessings from the world of angels into the world of living beings.

A Meditation with the Name: Niggun Meditation

If you want to experience greater devekut-cleaving, then gaze upon a flame and contemplate it, and as you gaze, remember the threefold flame of faith, hope and love burning in your heart, and envision a threefold holy flame burning in your heart, something like a Holy Letter Shin; so pray to the LORD to kindle the flame of your heart and to awaken and uplift the Fire Snake in you – to set you on fire with the Holy Spirit.

Now, intone the Divine Names of the Middle Pillar and chant Eheieh Yah Yahweh Yeshua Adonai; and then, with heart and soul, and the conscious intention of igniting the passion of devekut, intone the Holy Name: La-La-Da.

As you are chanting the Holy Name, begin to take up Niggun Meditation with the Name – playing with the sounds, shifting and changing them by inspiration of the Spirit, until rather than the Holy Name it is a heart song of sound-vibration as in “tongues,” a pure prayer and offering of worship from the heart and soul, and the Holy Spirit.

Sing and shout, and make a joyful noise before the presence of Yahweh Elohim, dance and play some instrument if you will – let the Holy Spirit move with, in and through you, and be on fire with the Ruach Ha-Yahweh, the Spirit of the LORD.

*If some prerecorded music will help with this, then put some on – whatever it takes!

Go where the Mother Spirit carries you – where divine passion carries you, and do not hold back, but rejoice in the presence of Yahweh Elohim.

When this movement comes full circle, celebrate a Holy Wedding Feast and pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the people; then grounding this movement, take some time for a session of study and contemplation, bringing a balance in your energy, and conclude with Primordial Meditation. This completes the movement.

This is the practice.

A Practice among the Navim: Contemplative Meditation

When the son or daughter of the navim wishes to acquire insight into the deeper mysteries of the Holy Scriptures as they study and contemplate them, or those of teachings they have received, let them call upon this Holy Name and take up Contemplative Meditation

Pray and worship, and bind your soul to The Name; invoke the Holy Spirit and Shekinah, and the company of the Holy Shekinah – then intone the unification of Yahweh with Yeshua, and call upon the Name: Lo-Lo-Da, holding the conscious intention of receiving the penetrating insight you seek from the very Spirit that inspired the Scriptures or teaching.

When you have called upon the Name, take up Contemplative Meditation as taught in the tradition.

When all is done, give praise and thanks to God, and pray for the people. This completes the movement.

Angels of the Name

Loshofiel, Loshamiel and Dimvalael are the angels of this Holy Name; they are from the order of the Ashim and are among the angels of God that inspire worship among the faithful.

This concludes our sacred discourse in the Forty-Second Names of Gevurot and Hasidim through the mercy and compassion of God. Hallelu El – Praise God! Amen.

Mem-Yod-Kaf

Shabbat Shalom, Tau Malachi:

It occurred to me in praying with names that there are sometimes a whole unit of grammatical thought held in three letters. Mem-Yod-Kaf is a beautiful example of a noun phrase. Mem-Yod spells "mi" and in Hebrew means "who"; Kaf by itself is an adverb used in similes "like" or "as." Put them together, "Who is like" is held in this Divine Name. What's more exhilarating, is how it, with the Divine Name suffix El, forms the name for Archangel Michael: Who is like El.

I wondered how this might inspire further teachings on this Name of Gevurot, given its immediate resonance with Archangel Michael?

Blessings to you in the Holy Light of Messiah, the Anointed of God!

You have good eyes my brother, seeing what is set before you. Indeed, “who is like,” exactly; and so this does point to the archangel, Michael, ‘one who is like God.’

First, understand, in the traditional sacred circle Michael is attributed to the south, corresponding with fire, the force of will and the Way of Power, among other things; there is a strong association with the magical art, or wonderworking art, and likewise the opening of the interior stars, awakening and uplifting the serpent power, and the generation of the body of light. As hinted at in the initial writing this Name of God holds spiritual power related to these secret mysteries and may be invoked for various corresponding intentions.

Here it is given that we may share an open secret. As we know, human beings are created in the image and likeness of the Eternal God (Yahweh Elohim), the soul of human beings being a manifestation of the ‘breath’ of the Eternal God - the Spirit of God. As we also know, according to the Holy Kabbalah, the image of God is in us, but it is given to us to generate the likeness of that divine image in our person and life. According to our gospel Yeshua Messiah was the perfect human being, and in him this image and likeness is revealed to us, therefore, receiving the Spirit of the Messiah we co-labor with the Spirit to be Messiah-like, and so God-like.

Remember, though, on a metaphysical level, receiving the Holy Light and Spirit from above, we seek to bring it down, and as it is brought down there is an ignition of the interior stars - their ‘opening,’ and there is an awakening of the serpent power in us, which we then co-labor with the Spirit of the Messiah to uplift to the heart, brow and crown, generating the body of light. This, on a subtle energetic level, is the generation, creation, of ‘likeness,’ a resemblance to the Messiah, and so to the Eternal God.

As we know, there may be a generation of the body of light formed of astral light, spiritual light or supernal light; when there is a generation of a body of light formed of supernal light, so the image of God is realized in us and there is a full generation of likeness in a spiritual and metaphysical level.

As perhaps you might intuit, this is among the Names of God that might be invoked in prayers for the generation of the body of light - the body of resurrection and ascension.

The awakened and uplifted serpent power - that power reintegrated with the Holy Light and Spirit, and the generation of the body of light is integral to the working of wonders, healing, and various works of invisible spiritual assistance. In this you may understand that this Holy Name also has much to do with knowledge of the magical art, or wonderworking art, and various works of the power of God that has been set into us.

In that ‘likeness’ corresponds with nearness on a spiritual level, as you might also imagine, when initiates desire to experience greater nearness to God, or yearn for the experience of intimate nearness, this is among those Names of God they invoke.

These are a few more teachings concerning this Holy Name that it was given for me to share.
