The Vision of the Holy Mother

When he arrived at the crest of the Holy Hill he found a celestial noble woman standing there, and he knew that she did not walk with her feet on the ground, and as he gazed upon her she called him to draw near, She-Who-Is-The-Mother-Of-All. When he drew near he was astonished by her radiance and glory, the radiance and glory of the Queen of Heaven, the Presence and Power of the Most High. Her clothes shone like the sun, and as that immeasurable brilliance shone on the rocks surrounding her, they sparkled like precious jewels and had voice. The entire ground on top of the Holy Hill became like a great rainbow of celestial glory in this Heaven Earth Place, and the trees, the Nopal Cactus and all of the medicinal herbs that grew there were like green obsidian, their leaves like the finest turquoise, their stalks and thorns like gold, and in the air was something like gold dust, luminous sparkling particles of light-breath; seeing this Juan Diego was filled with holy awe and wonder, and he threw himself down at the feet of the Holy Mother, worshipping in the Presence and Power of the Supreme.

This speaks directly to the experience of light transmission when our sight opens to the energy dimension, the visionary dimension – everything in the environment becomes heavenly in appearance, self-luminous, filled with the life and light of the Shekinah, the Divine Presence and Power. In truth, nothing has changed, but we are seeing things as they are – their true glory and power as they are in the Holy Shekinah, the Mother, the Bride; our consciousness has ascended, expanded, and the vibration of our consciousness has been uplifted, so we perceive with new senses, our interior senses, the senses of our soul and spirit becoming active.

This divine vision of the Mother connects to two revelations in the New Testament. First, it connects to the Transfiguration, when Adonai Yeshua took close disciples up on a sacred mountain and revealed the true glory and power of the Spiritual Sun that was in him, becoming radiant with the Supernal Light of God; and it connects to the vision of the Woman of Light clothed with the sun in the Book of Revelation – but here, the emanation is not up in the heavens and then coming down upon the earth, she is on the earth, on the top of the Holy Hill, awaiting her meeting with Juan Diego. In the vision of St. John the Woman of Light does not speak to him, but the Holy Mother speaks most intimately to Juan Diego – while the Woman of Light takes flight from the Serpent, the Great Dragon, on eagle’s wings, here her emanation as Guadalupe stands victorious, which is a most significant part of her message, the ultimate healing and spiritual victory, the peace and joy, she ushers in.

Now, as we know in our own experience of the light transmission, whenever a holy being appears radiant with the Supernal Light and the environment shines with the glory of the Supernal Light, our bodies also shine with glory and we become aware of our energetic being, our body of light – everything we might say of the experience on an external level is also an internal experience. If Juan Diego speaks of the glory of everything on top of the Holy Hill, then he also is experiencing the glorification of his body, and if he speaks of the stones having a voice, sound-vibration, then he is experiencing a powerful energetic vibration in his body – as we know in experiences of light transmission, it may feel as though his body is expanding and as though he is going to disappear in divine rapture.

Needless to say, he knows that Our Lady is a holy being, that “she does not walk with her feet on the ground,” and in this moment he knows that he is a holy being, and knows the beauty and holiness of the Divine Presence and Power in all things – this is what we know and understand in moments of light transmission and the reception of the Holy Spirit.

In some oral traditions among Aztec elders it is said that the Mother assumes the appearance of an Aztec princess – and this is how it is in the revelation of the Messiah and the Shekinah, the Divine Presence and Power assuming a form to which the person or being receiving the revelation can relate, appearing like those to whom it is revealing itself. This image is significant in that an Aztec princess would never stand up to receive a person into her presence, but she would remain seated, unless that person was of equal or higher standing, in which case she would stand – thus, truly, the Mother is intending to reflect the holiness of being in Juan Diego and in all of us, and her reception of him reflects that, in truth, he is no ordinary “peasant,” but a noble person, spiritual warrior and shaman, a holy man.

Of course, Juan Diego also knows that this Noble Celestial Woman is no ordinary woman – she is not a holy woman of this world, born of flesh and blood, but she is pure emanation, having no birth and no death, and she is the Woman of Womanhood, Mother God, and although appearing in the form of Our Lady of Guadalupe, she is the Supreme Mother, having countless aspects and emanations; thus Juan Diego bows down in her presence and worships the Holy Shekinah of the Supreme.

This reflects the very essence of the Mystical Path of Guadalupe, the Mystical Path of the Mother and Bride, and what may be called our “Tantra Yoga of Grace.” When we receive the Light from above, when we meet the Holy Mother and Bride, the Way is simple – it is an active and dynamic surrender to the Holy Mother in communion with her, submission to the dance of the Holy Shekinah, the Divine Presence and Power. This surrender, of course, is not one of self-denial and the repression of desire, but rather it is being who and what we are in the Mother and worshipping the Mother is all that we do – communing with the Mother in all things, and it is following our heart’s desire, not the desires of our ego, but the desires of our true and natural being. In this we honor our Divine Mother and fulfill her wishes, our joy being her joy as a child of the Mother.

Now, when we hear the description of her glory reflected in the environment, all of the terms used are things of value and things sacred to the Aztec and Toltec peoples, things believed to carry great medicine or power – green obsidian, turquoise, gold and precious jewels; this may very well be an exact description of how the plants and stones appeared in the vision, but it may also relate to another kind of perception, the perception of everything having equal value and power in the Mother, an awareness of the sacredness and spiritual power that is in all things.

Stones and the ground itself are, perhaps, our most ancient relations – the first peoples or beings to be formed on earth, and from the mineral realm, the vegetable or plant realm emerged as life, as consciousness-force, developed and evolved. There is great spiritual power in stone people and plant people – they all have spirits and powers, and they all are expressions of consciousness-force, energy-intelligence, and through the Light of the Mother, the Spiritual Sun and Holy Spirit, we know and understand how to call upon the spirits and powers of the stones, plants and animals, as well as the elemental powers, celestial powers and the angels of Our Heavenly Father.

The ground itself appears like rainbow light – this points to the truth of Our Lady as a pure emanation of the Light of the Infinite (Or Ain Sof), but also points to the truth of all as energy, energy that we can draw upon in our action as co-creators; it reveals the truth of everything as a play and exchange of energy. In terms of our drawing upon the energy or power of our relations, in the awareness of all relationships as an exchange of energy, we know that when we wish to draw upon the energy or power of a relation to do so we must form a true relationship, becoming acquainted with that spirit and power, asking and not demanding, and giving something back to the spirit, being beneficial to our relations as they are beneficial to us – hence developing a reciprocal relationship.

Thus addresses a great evil, a great ignorance, in the times of Juan Diego, one that continues into our own modern times, only having escaladed to even more extreme manifestations – the Spanish and other Europeans came to the people and land as rapists and thieves, as greedy takers, lustful consumers, intoxicated by impure egoistic desire, without regard for the people, the land or the environment, without any concern for their relations, seeking to take and devour, but giving nothing in return, having no interest in the welfare and well-being of their relations and environment. This, of course, is a great sickness in the world, one that is destroying us, destroying our relations, and destroying the environment and this Good Earth. This lesson of the formation of completely reciprocal relationships and the sacredness of all life, from the ground and stones, to plants, animals, human beings – all beings, is essential to our survival and the healing of this terrible sickness; it is a key lesson in our times, one we must learn if we are to go on to fulfill our true destiny as caretakers and co-creators.

Stones and plants are mentioned in the vision, and animals are mentioned also by way of the birds singing – the whole evolution of life leading to the generation of the human being is indicated by this, and the remembrance that all species are our relations, our ancestors; all life is in us and we are in it, our very existence from a physical to a spiritual level is interbeing, a profound interdependence and interconnection with all things, all beings, in creation – the entire universe. This is an important aspect of the knowledge or gnosis of the Mother, she who is this Great Matrix of Life and Light.

In this holy awareness of Sacred Unity, Interbeing, and the dynamic exchange of energy, giving and receiving, the Divine Mother empowers us to call upon the spirits and powers, to gather and acquire power so that we might act as conscious co-creators and fulfill our destiny.

A Walk of Power

This description of the radiant glory of the Mother and Bride, the Woman and the Maiden, points to a practice in the tradition – a “walk of power.” When a seer and wonderworker, a shaman, goes on a walk of power it becomes a moving ceremony – rather than doing ceremony in a place of power, or in a sacred circle, walking a line of power in the land, they invoke the Holy One and Powers, and call upon spirits as they are walking, gathering and acquiring powers, and engaging in spiritual work for the people. If we go out and walk in a sacred manner, walking in the presence of awareness, we may do something similar.

Go out into the great outdoors, into nature, and take a walk – as you go, call upon the Divine Mother and the Powers, and walk in the company of the Holy Shekinah, the Mother and Powers; as you walk, be aware that you walk with and in the Holy Mother, in the company of the Bride, and be aware that within everything there are spirits and powers, that all is formed of energy-intelligence, the emanation of the presence and power of the Great Spirit.

As you walk beneath and in Father Sky, and as you walk on and in Earth Mother – the Holy One, seek to look and see, and listen and hear, the spirits and powers around you, and become acquainted with them and commune with them, and in your communion with them, commune with the Holy Mother and Bride.

In this way, seek to know and understand the Great Mother, and enter into her embrace – walk with God as Enoch, the Initiate, walked with God, and let the Holy Spirit, the Mother Spirit, take you up.

If you walk with eyes of holy awe and wonder, open and sensitive to the spirits and powers, they will speak to you and they will share their power with you; whenever you have need of power and receive power from the spirits, remember to give some offering in return, and only take power when a spirit wishes to give it to you – walk in a sacred manner, walk in beauty and holiness.

*When you are walking it is good to take an offering bag with some offerings in it, and it is good to take a sacred walking stick or staff; if you are collecting power or sacred objects, it might be good to have a sacred bag to put them in as well.

This is the practice of a “walk of power.”

Blessings & shalom!
