Pentecost and the Tower of Babel

#1 Postby Martina » Sat May 12, 2018 3:49 am

Greetings in the Light of the Holy One!

"But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel[c]—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth." (Genesis 11:5-9)

"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b] 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”" (Acts 2:1-12)

It seems the chapter of the building of the tower of Babel speaks about twoness entering into the hearts and minds of the people and this is what truly stops the building of the tower. Who would dream of the building of such a tower? It seems humans who saw themselfs as God-like.

When the disciples at Pentecost speak in in the native languages of those present this twoness is transformed into oneness by their opening to Ruach Ha-Kodesh. In this the Bride is at the center leading the prayer and meditation of all of the disciples guiding them to this experience of deepest oneness.

The Bride is the one who already lives in this oneness she experienced in her communion with the Lord. Now others are opening up to this understanding too sharing it with many. In this oneness of the true heart the twoness of language is overcome.

Shalom and many blessings,
Martina

Grace and peace to you in Hayyah Yeshua, the Risen Messiah!

A true human being, faithful and righteous, manifests the image and likeness of God, and as such experiences nearness to God, and through the grace and mercy of God in the Messiah may even enter into the experience of oneness with God; hence, a person who is ‘Christ-like.’ In the case of the people of Babel it isn’t that they wished to be ‘God-like,’ or ‘Christ-like,’ but rather that they wished to be gods and goddesses themselves, their egos sought the place of divinity, and they wished to lord their supposed “superiority” over others. They fell completely into the original temptation, for the fruit of the forbidden tree was eaten with the thought of becoming an elohim, god, apart from God Most High, and this is exactly what they were doing in the building of their tower; hence, they did not seek to have knowledge of the One God, but to claim possession of knowledge as though were a god. God forbid and God forgive us!

This ignorance, of course, goes on to this very day among us, even the building of towers, grand idols, meant to laud our egos and our supposed “superiority” over others. Just look and see the many cities that race against one another to build the tallest and most elaborate skyscrapers; from ancient times until this very day, again and again this has been a preoccupation of rulers, the wealthy and powerful, of unenlightened society, all manner of monuments to false selves, egos, and not to God, the Most High.

Understand, our ego, this is the ‘chief idol,’ all of the other ‘idols’ we fashion and worship apart from the One God being projections of our ego and supports of our egos; so then with Babel, pride and arrogance, and idolatry were at play - the ignorance of associating any divinity in partnership with God or worship of anything other than God, the Absolute Light, heaven forfend!

This naturally leads to divisions among peoples and their endless competition and striving with one another, and their injustices, oppressions and persecutions enacted upon one another, and their wars for the sake of their rulers, tyrants, archons - titanic egos; hence the division of ‘tongues,’ or mind and hearts. This is the state of the ego’s dominion in us, a corrupt fragmented self, consciousness, fraught with violent internal conflict - a ‘nation divided against itself,’ which, as Adonai Yeshua teaches, ‘shall not stand’ but is destined to end in destruction.

May we take this lesson to heart from this revealed story and come to understand that our true enemy is the false self, the imposter, the ego in us, and so strive to bring the ego into submission to God, the Truth, the Real, shattering the dominion of this chief idol or ‘demiurge.’ May God help us in this and bring us to victory in the Messiah! Amen.

The ego is the manifestation of the soul arising in ignorance, the illusion of separation, and so when souls descend into the flesh, the ‘darkness of matter,’ the ego is very strong, though it is not isolate to the flesh, but is a natural element of souls in the unenlightened condition, in the body and beyond the body, until they, indeed, remember their Source and Origin, and so ‘return to God,’ or reintegrate with the Light of the Infinite and Eternal One. With the arising of the ego, so ego-cherishing, ego-worshipping, and the play of desire and fear in ego-grasping, and self-will in place of the will of God, the True Divinity. Thus, the ‘path of sin and death,’ bondage to the gilgulim, potentially endless rounds of birth, life, aging, illness and death - immeasurable sorrow and suffering.

God Most High, however, is Most Merciful, Most Gracious, All-Forgiving, All-Powerful, and understanding the plight of living spirits and souls in their bondage, and having compassion upon them, God, the True Light, reveals Godself, sending forth prophets and apostles with revelations, such as Messiah Yeshua and the Gospel he brought to us teaching the Straight Path, the Way of Return. And how very sweet the revelation and way given to us in the Messiah and Gospel, so simple, so gracious and merciful, so very kind and without any great burden, but revealing the truth of innate oneness and how is it realized, and granting us the complete forgiveness of sin, the complete removal of negative karma through the Holy Cross, so that we, indeed, may enter into this Self-realization of Messiah unified with the Holy One - the Infinite Light. Hallelu Yah! Praise the Lord!

So, then, look and see these disciples of the Perfect Master who walked with Him and came to walking in him, who strove to draw near to God and realize oneness with the Messiah in God, the Absolute Light. It was a sojourn of some years through all manner of events, even the suffering and death of their dear Prophet, blessed be he. Understand, the upper room on Pentecost was the culmination of their walk with the Lord in this world, the fruition of this sojourn, and the beginning of their walk in the Lord, in complete oneness with the Holy Shekinah, the Holy Spirit - the Divine Presence.

As we know, in that time of culmination, fruition, a ‘violent wind’ came upon them in the upper room, and then a ‘blazing fire,’ dividing into ‘tongues of fire’ alighting upon each of their heads. This corresponds with the full submission, and annihilation, of their egos in unification with the Divine Presence, the fullness of the fear of the Lord and love of the Lord being realized in them, and utterly consuming them, until there was nothing that remained other than the Lord, the True Light. So, then, arising in this way they walked in the Lord, in God the True Light, and that Holy Light and Spirit filled them and manifest as them, radiance of the Supernal Crown - Crown of the Risen and Ascended Messiah.

So, there, in the upper room, the ‘violent wind,’ direct action of the Holy Spirit, shattered and scattered their egos, annihilating their false selves, and then the Holy Light and Fire enlightened them and brought them into conscious union with heaven and the Messiah in the Eternal One; so ordained and consecrated as Holy Apostles, Messengers of the Gospel, they arose and went out following the mandate given to them by God Most High in the Messiah. How awesome! How wonderful! Praise God!

Now understand something concerning the ‘speaking in tongues,’ and peoples ‘hearing the apostles speak in their own languages.’ This corresponds with heart-to-heart, mind-to-mind and soul-to-soul transmission; hence, a moment of inwardness communicating with inwardness, just as angels and the Spirit of God communicate with us. Indeed, this is a communication in the Holy Spirit, a moment when open hearts and minds are united in the Spirit, and there is direct perception and witnessing of revelation, or direct knowing of the Truth; such that whether put in eloquent speech or not, it does not matter, the true intention and meaning thunders through and is known. The light of love conveys its message, and those open to it receive it.

Such moments can indeed occur between peoples of different languages, so that the speaker seems to be ‘heard’ in the language of the listener; these transmission of ‘inwardness’ and oneness can be that radical at times.

It is interesting. According to the passage there were also those present who could not listen and hear the apostles, those who thought they were drunk in the early hours of the day - those predestined to disbelief, slavery to the ego. They were, in part, correct though, for the apostles were intoxicated, but not in the way that they thought. The apostles were intoxicated with the ‘wine of heaven,’ the love of the Beloved, completely taken up by the Spirit of God (Ruach Elohim).

The stories of Babel and Pentecost are deeply interconnected, and we may say that on Pentecost was a mending, healing, of the sin of Babel; unification in the Living Word of God, the True Light.

In closing we can share an open secret. In fruition, in unification with the Messiah in the Holy One, the fear of the Lord, Yahweh, and the love of the Lord, Yahweh, are one; there is complete awe and bliss in the Presence of the Eternal One, and there is perfect peace, repose, continual abiding in that Divine Presence.

May our egos also be brought into cessation so that our souls might be raised with the Messiah to experience endless being in the Infinite and Eternal! Amen.

Yeshua Shalom!

Re: Pentecost and the Tower of Babel

Greetings in the Light of the Risen Messiah!

Thank you, Tau Malachi, for exploring this topic and even taking it up in the Shabbat discourse! I am very grateful for the depth of teachings that has been shared! It was not clear to me that the word God-like has a different meaning then wanting to be like a god, an idol. Thank you for clarifying this meaning.

I have been contemplating the two stories in connection with a spiritual evolution that has many steps, moving forward and backward. There is a continual revelation of the Light of the Holy One to humankind even before the Tower of Babel. There was Enoch and later Noah. No one could receive the Light Enoch was embodying at the time. In mercy, God translated him into the archangel Metatron, and so his understanding was not lost. But after that humankind turned to evil so much so that Noah was instructed by God to build the ark. The building of the Tower of Babel happens after God made the covenant of the rainbow with Noah. It seems there is this evolution of the revelation of God and the Holy Shekina moving forward and backward and even more forward. The building of the Tower of Babel was a time of great darkness again. Yet with Abram and Sarai taking up their journey there is a greater revelation of the Holy Shekina then before. This continues with the other patriarchs, with Moses, the judges, the prophets coming to fruition with Yohanan and Yeshua, Lady Mirya and the apostles. It seems the Torah and Gospel are telling this great journey from twoness into oneness with the Holy One, that is ongoing in us. As you shared in the Shabbat discourse, even after the disciples became apostles in the reception of the Light at Pentecost, they never stopped learning on their path.

It also comes to mind that the Sophian Tradition teaches the Strait Path, but even on this path spiritual evolution is a process of taking steps forward and regressing for a time in our understanding.

May we never stop in our journey into oneness!

Shabbat Shalom,
Martina

Blessings to you in the Holy Light of the Messiah, the light of all prophets and apostles!

Yes, indeed, there is a natural play of progression and regression in the reception of the revelations of God Most High and in the journey of the Path of Return, and this is true on the level of the collective of humankind and the individual human being. In general, each progression moves further forward in an ongoing evolution of revelation and realization, and each regression not so far backward; hence, the teaching of creation founded upon the mercy of God not judgment, or as a movement that drives creatures towards liberation not bondage. The play of revelation and realization in the collective, the evolution of the collective, is a very, very slow process however, and for many individuals in the human collective, in the present human condition, the progress of evolution is not very swift either; yet there are those who experience a quickening, an acceleration of progress in the evolution of the soul and the ascension of the soul in return to God and Self-realization. Those who receive the revelations of God, the Absolute Light, and who follow in the way of the prophets and apostles that God sends, having faith in enlightenment and the One God, turning to God, seeking God, and through the mercy and grace of God ‘finding’ God, those touched by the Spirit of God and taken up by the Divine Presence, Holy Spirit, these may progress in their evolution and realization more or less swiftly, though naturally there will be some errors and regressions along the way.

On an individual level we see this clearly with the disciples of Adonai Yeshua, and their various struggles to follow in the Way and overcome barriers, klippot, as they walked with the Lord, and indeed, we hear of their regressions, falls, apparent ‘failures’ along the way, until finally they were able to abide in the upper room and pass away in complete unification with the Divine Presence, the Holy Spirit, in complete submission, self-offering. Though only three to six years with the Master, it was an intensive and long sojourn for them with the Master, and yet so very swift, like a lightening bolt in terms of the years of life until Self-realization, knowledge of God. Their story is our story if we are willing to submission to God in fear and love of God such as theirs. Understand, in the resurrection and ascension of Yeshua Messiah and the realization of the apostles in the Messiah is a promise of God to us of what the Almighty will do for us if only we will strive for God and sojourn in the Gospel, the Way. Praise God!

In terms of the collective, understand that many prophets have been sent, from Adam to Yohanan, Yeshua and Mirya, and with each of them there was a progression of the revelation of God and Self-realization, knowledge of God; hence, a greater and greater revelation of God Most High and the One Way. The coming of the Messiah, of course, is the culmination of this continuum of revelation, the fruition of the culmination being the Second Coming, the reality of which is hinted at in the Pentecost; hence the full embodiment of the Messiah and Shekinah, Holy Spirit, in a greater segment of the human collective - the generation of a new humanity, supernal and divine, ‘generations of the Second Adam.’

There is, though, something more to be said, for as well as the truth of progress and regress in the play of spiritual evolution, revelation and realization, so also there is the truth of the great resistance against the Light Transmission in this world and the great darkness, ignorance, that rules this world and that holds souls in bondage.

When Adam and Havvah appeared among material, bestial humankind, they were first of the prophets, the first of faithful and spiritual humanity, but few would receive the message of the One Faith, One God from them, and even among their children there was strife and a rejection of the revelation of God, though Seth did take it up after Cain slew Abel. Cain murdered Abel, the one who received the revelation with understanding, then came Seth who received it and endured. Then there was Enoch, and virtually none of the people of his generation would listen and hear the prophet and receive his revelation of God, and so God took him from among them, leaving them to their ignorance and their own devises. After him was Noah, whom was belied and persecuted by the people of his generation, and only a few of his relatives followed him; as the generation of the flood passed into destruction Noah and those few were delivered. Likewise it is said that a prophet was sent to Babel to forewarn them and to call them to faith in the One God, the True Light, but they rejected the prophet and would not listen and hear the word of the Lord. After this there was Abram and Sarai, and those of that succession following. Most of the people of that land and generation would not receive their revelation and guidance, so they and those who did believe and follow in the One Way were called by God Most High to depart that land and to wander, leaving them to their denial and ignorance. So then there was Moses sent to Egypt and Pharaoh, and we know the story very well. The Children of Israel and those of the mixed multitude that followed him were delivered by the great power of the Almighty, and Pharaoh and his hosts, and many of his people, met an ill-fated end. In the time of Moses, so even among those who followed him and received the revelation of God through him, were many who rebelled and struggled against him throughout their journey with him in the Lord, though yes, also there were many great faithful and righteous ones with him. So the story goes on through the judges, those early prophets after Moses, to the great prophets after them, and as we know virtually all of them faced persecutions and rejection, along with some acceptance, and many were treated terribly and were killed by unbelievers and beliers of the revelations of God, the True Light. Indeed, and so with Yohanan and Yeshua, they were killed, but as a sign and witness, and as a promise to those who believe and follow in the One Way, God Most High raise up Messiah Yeshua, giving him complete Lordship, Sovereignty.

In this light consider what is said to have happened when the apostles begin to preach the Gospel, carrying their message to the people. On that very first occasion, while some believed and received their revelation, there were those who disbelieved, belied and rejected them claiming that they were drunk, or mad, or perhaps engaged in some kind of sorcery or fraud. As we know, all of them would eventually give their lives for sake of bearing the Living Word and Light Transmission to the people, and very great were the persecutions and oppressions that they endured in their lives for the sake of the Gospel and God Most High. May we have such sincere and zealous faith and devotion!

As we know in revelation it has been said that the present generations in modern times are something like the generation of Noah; hence this very time is a time of great resistance to God, the True Light, a time of great ignorance, darkness and deception. Just as there is the play of natural progress and regress in the ascension of the soul through the Sefirot, or various states and stations, so there is this striving against this great force of resistance and opposition to the Holy Light and Spirit of the Messiah and Holy One.

Now, if and when we experience regressions, descents, we must keep the faith and live according to our faith, and we must strive to return to the Lord and to progress in the Gospel, the Great Resurrection and Ascension. Likewise, though we may encounter great resistance, even rejection or persecution, so we need to be bold in our faith and love, and not compromise our faith and devotions in any way, but rather we need to place our trust and hope in God, the True Light, and in the Messiah sent to us, cleaving always to the Lord, our God.

The contemplation of the tower of Babel and Pentecost holds both of these mysteries, and as we know they are deeply connected, for the downward backward pull - the force of resistance, is involved in the soul’s experience of regressions and those times we fall into sin, error, negativity.

Shabbat Shalom!
